Yes! No boat makes very difficult to:effectively present a diving “crank bait”! Diving crank baits are all about running depth at the active depth zone bass are located. When fishing from shore every diving lure is limited because the depth is getting shallower as the lure approaches the your casting location at the shore line. Tom

What it sounds like you need is to swing the tackle crate around to one side of you to access it. This can be done by attaching the create to a swing table arm mounted where the create is now sitting. Think of the 2 flat plates with the bottom plate with a corner post mounted to the kayak. The upper plate with a receptacle plate (hole) for the post to be the pivot point. You will need a release latch to hold the plate in both the closed behind the seat position and the rotated to one side position. The plates could be 12” x 16” 3/8” marine plywood or something lighter and stronger. Tom

1st soft plastic worm I used was given to me at Lake Shasta back in 1955 by a old timer helping out a kid. The worm was a pre rigged Creame worm, nature night crawler color with a tiny proper between 2 beads. The old man said use a swivel clip and attached the worm and a 1/4 oz Dempsey sinker, cast and drag down points. The old guy pointed across the bay start over there. Only had 1 worm and caught several bass on it before snagging it and loosing it. Didn’t know where to buy more, the local marina shop didn’t know and it was a few years before finding more Creame worms at a local shop. The Lowly worm* has been my main stay for decades. Bait casting reels back in the day only were available with the handle on right side and didn’t have free spool, the handle was direct drive meaning the handle spun during the cast. I had a Langley 340 Target with free spool to disengage the handle during the cast but the reel didn’t have a level wind. I am more dexterous casting right handed and holding the rod in my left hand because using my fingers on the line to keep some contact and with the 340 reel my fingers were the level wind. The salt water casting reels I grew up using didn't have a level, most don’t to this day. So I learned to use my fingers to level wind line on casting reels. Tom

Night fishing up north is good for walleyes😎 Night bass fishing up north seasonally would be better when the water and air temps are above 50 degrees. Without sonar bass fishing at night is more difficult then day light because you can’t see well enough to cast at shore cover accurately....no depth perception and can’t see weed lines, over hanging trees, etc. The positive factor night fishing for bass is the boat traffic is few and far between. Texas rigged worms with a sliding bullet weight and glass bead is my 1st night fishing rig followed by a jig ‘n pig. Tom

Learned in the 50’s to cast right handed and switch to the left hand to retrieve lures using my right hand. When spinning reels 1st came out the handle was on the left side so cast right handed and reel left hand. Left hand casting reels were rare until the mid 80’s and spinning reels became universal left out right handed. My fishing partner had only left hand reels and tried them but didn't feel right and my strike detection was poor compared to decades of holding the casting rod in the left hand. With a few hours of practice the casting motion should be decent, hand eye coordination will take more time. Probably should have learned left hand casting because I am left eye dominate. Tom

You use a circle hook to prevent gut hooking and reduce the hook set force by reeling to set the hook. Using the standard drop shot hook try inserting the through the plastic under the o-ring and lower the hook set force, it’s not needed for exposed hook. Tom

The reels are very different in weight 4.2 oz vs 6.2 oz. the 6 oz range reel weight puts you into Daiwa and Shimano higher end reels. For general use like pitching or frogging into heavy cover the rod is the most important component, extremely light weight reel it’s difficult to find a rod that balances. Aluminum gears are popular today to save weight using titanium nitrite coating for wear. Magnesium alloys being used to reduce weight are not as strong as aluminum and shouldn’t be used in salt water. You pay a lot for light weight and that doesn’t mean durabilty. Good luck! Tom

Measuring the minimum distance between the 8’ garage door frame is usually a few inches under 96”. Measure the widest distance of the trailer usually the outside of the fenders to determine that distance. Keep in mind the trailer doesn’t need to go straight back through the garage door opening. If it’s possible to angle the trailer through the opening then straighten out after passing through you increase the clearance a few inches. Tom

How many jigs do you plan to powder coat? I used make up about 100 jigs annually and painted the lead head with Testors Enamel model paint. The enamel doesn’t chip, doesn’t get into the hook eye and available in 100’s of colors. The small bottle will cover more then a 100 jigs per color. Tom

A good friend was Andy ‘Cooch” Cacaccia who was a icon at the California Delta or River system as Cooch called it. Cooch designed the Wadda jig and promoted the 1 ton jig when targeting Fall bass. What is a 1 ton jig you ask? It’s a 1 oz jig with a big pork trailer. Cooch presentation was dragging the heavy jig to kick up a mud trail and look like a big ole crusty crawdad common in the fall. Find red clay soil bank and drag a 1 ton jig! Tom

What is your budget ball park? Lots of good rod available $150-$200 price range. BPS Carbonite rods are contracted to the builders in China , every year is different. Fenwick is no longer a company, it’s Pure Fishing brand, also contracted to China. St Croix is a American company in Wisconsin, lower to mid range rods built in Mexico, Majority made in Wisconsin, good customer service and warranty. Tom

I like to anchor at night on off shore spots, especially in the wind. Anchoring when trout fishing with bait is another time I anchored. When I had a boat a 20 lb navy anchor with 75’ of 3/4” rope. Stored both rope and anchor in a plastic milk create, still have but no boat, should give it away! Tom

Should add the west has a weekly fishing news paper WON with fish reports for nearly every lake and give you some local ideas where to fish. Turners Outdoors is another source for fishing information with several locations in OC. Don’t over look the coastal ocean fishing lots places to along the OC coastline. Our lakes north of OC in LA, Ventura and Santa Barbara counties are having water quality issues. San Diego county and city lake are renown for good bass fishing, 1 1/2+hr drive south. If anyone is honest spinning tackle for bass fishing was nearly unheard of before the 1970’s. A few used spinning like Bill Murphy with his custom rod and size 5 Cardinal reel for 15 lb test line. Gary Yamamoto always used spinning tackle but it was the finesse light line light lures that popularized spinning for bass anglers. Today spinning is as common as bait casting and today’s BFS bait casting is crossing the line for light lure bait casting. To directly answer the OP’s ? Medium Spinning with 2500 reel and 6 lb. mono is the proper tackle for small light weight Rapalas. Tom

Lure weight is one factor. And lure wind resistance is another. Line diameter too large for the lure weight also factors into cast ability with bait casters. Think about a broom stick with zero flex and trying to cast a lure, it doesn’t. Work. Tom
