What line ( type, pound, brand) for spin rods

Featured Replies

What kind of line for your spinning rods?? Just in general, no specific techniques in mind. A good all around choice.

10#-15# Sufix 832 or Seaguar Smackdown....change leader based on what technique you're using.

Pretty much use 15lb braid on all spinning applications

10-15# J-Braid or Smackdown in bright yellow!

X2

A-Jay

10-15# Berkley X9 to Sniper.  :)

15lb PP slick and whatever leader I might need (if needed)

Pretty much the same as all the above.

Same, to a 6lb leader.

All my spinning reels have a spare spool.  One has two extra spools.  Most of my fresh water reels have 10 or 12 lb fluorocarbon on one spool and 10 or 15 lb braid on the other.  My large reel which has the two extra spools, and I occasionally use for salt water.  Two spools have fluorocarbon, 15 lb on one and 20 lb on the other.  The third spool has 30 lb braid.  I tie the braid directly to the lure or jig.  I don't use a leader.

#10 to #15 of 832 hi vis.

Fg knot to a mono leader

I like 6 lb Yo-Zuri Hybrid as an all around spinning line.

Braid and 10 pound max

But first choice overall is 8# Nanofil luckily I have about 1700yds left.

I had wind knots with braid and got tired of leaders so I normally use 4lb or 6lb flurocarbon or mono.

6lb CXX is my new jam.

*5# (.008D)  Maxima Ultra Green copoly line, for slip shot and *general use.

7# (.0086D) Sniper FC line for drop shot.

15# (.006D) Fins Spin5…braid, 10# (.010D) Sniper FC leader for Senko’s.

Tom

*Line diameter is important for spinning reels.

For all of my spinning rods that have a roster spot in my primary quiver, which are (with one exception) either ML or M power. I have three M/F spinning rods (6'10", 7' and 7'1") all fast action. The ML rods I have are a 7' ML/F and a 7'6" ML/XF. Then, I have one 7' Shimano Expride that is an L/F.

All six rods have 10 lb braid, and then 6-8 lb fluorocarbon leader.

Braid (Hi-Vis green or chartreuse):

Daiwa J-Braid Grand

Seaguar Smackdown

Power Pro

Leader (I start with 10-15 foot length):

Daiwa Samurai Fluorocarbon

Mid-tier garden variety 6 lb monofilament

I make no claims that my choices are superior. I think of it being a variable that I can make more consistent and it's a devil I know. They are simply something that works for me at a price that doesn't hurt my feelings as much as line that doesn't perform at least decently or line that makes me cringe at the thought of losing a few feet of it on the regular. We all have our own limits in that regard, and even mine might be all over the map at times.

8 or 10lb braid, either PP or 832.

leader 4lb-10lb mono or FC.

red lable, invizx, Trilene XL, or McCoy co-poly.

3 with 8lb Fireline

2 with 10lb Fireline

1 with 8lb Siglon (Liked the orange, haven’t used enough to form an opinion yet).
