Group 24 trolling motor batteries

Featured Replies

I’m trying to decide between taking the plunge and getting a single 24v lithium battery.

My buddy runs his minnkota terrova on 2 group 24 batteries and says it functions fine and never drained them completely.

Has anyone run a trolling motor on group 24 batteries, and if so, what’s your thoughts or regrets?

 Thanks

If your looking for less weight and less space a single 24v lithium is the ticket. I hope you’re not thinking about running them completely down. You want to stay above 50% with a standard battery and I personally wouldn’t go below 20% with a lithium. I run lithiums on my trolling motor and fishing all day it never comes close to 60%

2 group 24 batteries are overkill for 6 foot canoe and and completely inadequate for a 21 ft fiberglass bass boat.   Can you give us some more details?  What trolling motor?  How big is your boat?  Do you have an outboard or is it electric only?

I run a 16 foot jon boat with a Merc 45 jet. My current trolling motor is a 70lb 24 volt power drive. I fish moderate current rivers with occasional use in heavy current but avoid those areas too much until I upgrade to a trolling motor with spot lock

You definitely want a separate cranking-house battery to start the OB and run your electrics. You can use 2 group 27 AGM’s wired in series for the TM and tap off one battery 12V for the engine and electronics.

Going with the 50AH LiFeP04 24V saves weight and more then enough power for the TM. Lithium goes bye amp hour not group size, you need to research the size in inches vs group size lead acid battery. You need a 2nd 12V marine battery to start the engine and run electronics, standard gr 24 works.

The Iconics customer service can answer your questions better the I can.

For a 24V lithium, something in the 50-60 aH range is plenty and will give you enough juice for later when you're spot locking in current.

3 - 50ah Ionics for 36v Ultrex

Something to keep in mind that not all chargers are lithium compatible.  Mine aren't.  They specifically say only to be used with lead-acid or AGM batteries.

Yes.  When the time comes, that's the one.

That's the exact model I put in Bass Trek from the get-go.
