House battery to run all the electrical needs, starting battery, 2 or 3 TM batteries, lithium starts to make sense to save weight. Pricy with a new charging system plus the high cost of lithiums. I wouldn’t mix AGM’s and Lithium, different chargers needed. Tom

Suffix Advance is a large diameter per lb test mono line little or no different then Big Game imo. Sunline Shooter Diefer Armilo is a small diameter Nylon mono with higher strength per dia then any other mono line available. Very smooth long casting with good abrasion and high knot : impact strength. It’s pricey but outlast other mono. Always open to finding better line as the state of the always changing. Maybe Sunline will offer Armilo in lower # test like 9 or 7# soon? Tom

It’s not the Senko weight you should be using spinning it’s the free fall swimming motion of the Senko that is important. My current rod is SC Victory 7’3” MXF with Shimsno Vanford 2500, line going to give Fins 15 # spin Braid w/ 10# Sniper FC another try. The Walters is a 6’10” Medium 1/2- 1 1/2 oz lures. The Feider is a 6’9” Medium Light, 3/8-5/8 oz lures. Rating the Walters a medium is a ? usually a Heavy power. MB Vision 110 weighs 1/2 oz! Tom

He left out knot strength for a reason? His line strength device could have been used for knot strength. 2 important factors come to mind, 1) no standard test procedure exist and 2) no test methods exists. Line tests is meaningless without knot and impact testing using line diameter as the baseline. We can’t use line without a knot or set hooks without strong impact strength. It comes down to what knot will the majority of anglers accept? Low stretch isn’t good with FC line....indicates low impact strength. Tom

Castiac lake is a very challenging body of water in the wind. Castiac is basically V shaped with 2 arms. The Ski arm runs generally Northwest, the Fish arm Northeast and both surrounded by mountainous terrain. The word vortex describes wind direction in the secondary bays ad coves.The lake can be rolling white caps down or up the 2 major arms and swirling changing direction in bays or covers. On a calm afternoon the wind may be blowing 15 mph with gust to 25 mph. On a windy day double those wind speeds. Nasty lake at times. Mornings and cloudy days are usually good with winds under 10 mph....flat calm is rare. Lake Casitas about 40 miles away is usually calm to 10 mph directional winds, easy to fish. Wind creates current and DO, Bass face into the current, your lures should come to them, not from behind them. Tom

The boat looks like a multi (twin ) engine racer and taking the girls out for ride. Everything going OK until the driver decide a higher speed thrill ride and bow hooked a big wake nearly ejecting him out of the boat. Accident waiting to happen and lucky someone didn’t get seriously injured. The driver may have been injured? Booze....probably. Tom

Battery; only use Marine Deep Cycle. Battery size for starting outboard engine a Group 24. Battery size to start outboard and run you electrical components and sonar unit size Group 27. Battery to run your trolling motor should be separate from starting and electrical use. TM Battery size depends on how often you use it and the boat size. Generally group size 29 to 31. If you want no maintenance Battery then use AGM’s. 5 year old wet cell 12V Battery is beyond it’s life expectancy. Tom

Been fish flat worms for decades called “hand poured”. Nose hooked use either Owner Mosquito or Gamakatsu drop shat hook. Weedless I use Owner #5133 Down Shot hook size 1/0 for worm 3 1/2-4”. The turned up eye on the 5133 helps hold the worm head in place and light forged wire is very strong. Tom PS, try rigged flat side up, swims better.

I use Owner #5133 size 1/0 or 2/0 Down Shot hook for weedless drop shot, Slip Shot and T-rig w/ sliding bullet weights. 4 1/2”to 5” size 1/0, 6” size 2/0 Riboworms. Tom

Fish a trout swimbait 68 or 8” as often as you can and grind it out. Target compression zones like major points and humps. Rain or shine, cold weather is good, go slow and deeper. Tom

Not all bait casting reels are equal in spool capacity and level wind speed. Deeper spool with slower level wind worm gear results in loose braid that can dig into itself. Shallow spool with faster worm gear eliminates braid digging into itself and can perform good using smaller diameter braid. Shallow spool weighs less. My 1940’s era Langley 330 & 340 had light weight drilled aluminum shallow spools and cast equally well as today’s reels. BFS reels take full advantage of known casting technology using small diameter braid. Tom

5” Senko does weigh 3/8 oz ad ease to cast with a bait caster. I use a spinning reel for 5” to 6” Senko’s unweighted because all need to do create slack line is rise and lower the rod tip without moving the Senko, difficult to perform with a bait casting reel. Letting the Senko swim down triggers strikes. Tom PS, Screw In bullet weigh is called the “Florida rig” where it was developed.

The issues with spinning early vintage reels was the drag technology, drive train support and bail design. Anglers still talk about their loved Mitchell 300 reels with high friction drag washers to start the spool slipping, bail springs that failed easily and a drive shaft prone to pulling off under pressure. These problems were universal with early 50’s spinning reel. Zebco Abu Cardinal spinning reel solved the drag washer start up issue with a rear drag without friction washers. The Cardinal also incorporated bearing support for the drive shaft and the+design prevented the spool pulling off. Damm Quick a German design added more innovations and improved spool drag washer design with lower start up forces . The Japanese Daiwa design with long tapered spools set today’s standard. Shimano introduced the state of the spinning reel with their Stradic series, still after 30 years a bench mark reel. So, yes spinning reels have evolved along with Casting reels. Tom
