New Steering Cables, thanks Jack
I can only hope it only takes 1.5 hours. As my mechanic explained it, For my 96 Stratos, there isn't a lot of room to navigate and the cables have to be turned and worked through the hull. He stated that the motor would have to come off as well. I also had to have the steering console replaced but it was all part of a kit. I don't think he is trying to highball me. At least he has always been straight up in the past. He even said that if it only took him 2 hours then the price would be significantly less. My steering has always been a bit hard so I can't wait to have it smooth. And, you're right, I didn't want to be flying down the lake at 60mph with my son in the boat and have it snap.

Estimating Water Temperature
1. Stick finger or hand in water 2. If hand gets cold, water temps are cold 3. If hand gets hot, water temps are warm 4. If had does not get hot or cold, water is tepid. Or you must stick finger or hand farther down as you have missed the water... And It Is FREE

New Steering Cables, thanks Jack
After reading a thread recently about someones hard steering I got to thinking. My boat is 96 and i noticed my steering at the end of last year was very hard to turn. FishForDollars(Jack) posted that the steering cables should be checked. "You don't want to mess with bad steering cables" he stated. I was going to take my boat in to have the bearings replaced and some work done on the trailer (I can do it just don't have the time) so I told him to look at the cables. Diagnosis: They need to be replaced. My mechanic said they should have been replaced long ago. Price: $550 for the kit, 4.5+ labor for a grand total of over $1000.00 Jack, I don't know whether to hug you or kick ya???? But thanks :-? :'(

Private vs Public schools
You have raised a great question. I too, have a child and have chosen to send him to a private school. There are some public schools who test higher than many private schools. Here is what I have experienced with the private schools to date. There is a noticable difference in the faculty, and parental involvemnet in my particular private school. The school is teaching the kids about respect for the fellow man, as well as the importance of a hard work ethic and dedication. I can't say the same for many of the public schools in my area. My wife is a teacher and the largest difference and the reason we chose to spend 4500 a year for a 6th grader is in our public schools there is a sever lack of parental guidence which in turn leads to troubled children. But, this is part of our countries issue not just my area. Flint, Mi. second only to Detroit as the worst public schools in the country though.

If money were no object, which bass boat would you choose and why?
Unfortunately, Boats don't catch fish..... But, if I had no limit I would probably go with a Skeeter. PURTY LOOKIN, stable, good customer service

Patoka Lake - Jasper IN
Part of the reason for the decline in bass fishing at this lake is directly related to the introduction of the striper population. At one time, Patoka had the slot limit and the average fish was 2-4lbs. However, the Stripers have put a large dent in the food chain that the LM Bass had once been the apex predator on and thrived. Find Weeds and you will usually find quality bass, especially in April. I assume you are fishing the NBAA championship so I cannot give you too much advice cause I'll be there as well. But, look for timber with weeds adjacent. Also, the eastern half of the lake has always been productive for me in the past. Although it will be a long haul from the launch. Good Luck.....

Ice-out water temp question
A relatively shallow lake by me just iced out. I put my boat out two days after the majority of the ice melted. Water temps were in high 30s near deeper water and water 8ft deep read 41 degrees. Fish will be very lethargic so fish Slow....

Live Target Lures
Yeah the bluegill pattern was very realistic. I am not sure how durable they are including the paint. For the price I thought that they were a good deal.

Lake Cumberland Stripers
Depending on your guide they may provide all the tackle. You may only have to show up and fihs

Live Target Lures
I ran a search on these and came up blank I just purchased the Live target Perch crankbait. It looks incredibly lifelike and has great action. Has anyone used these or other baits from this company? I am curious about the bluegill and craw

Kids fish anymore?
I only have one child. He is 10 and I have had him fishing since he was 3. He is a dropshotting, smallmouth fanatic. Saves his own money to buy Roboworms and dropshot wieghts. (Aarons magic is his color) He has at least two friends that love to go with us. I try to take as many kids out as I can. If there IS a decline in kids fishing its because parents do not expose their children to the outdoors anymore. Case in point: both parents work, little johnny is latchkey and plays PS3 till parents get home. Or, single family homes where there is NO father figure to introduce little Johnny to the outdoors and MOM is not an outdoorsy person.

Winter Gas additive question
Thanks Jack I guess it may have helped if I stated what motor. It is a 96 Johnson 150. I too, have always used Stabil Marine but Cart has me convinced to give seafoam a try. I will probably just run out the gas with the Stabil in it before adding Seafoam just to be safe.

Winter Gas additive question
When I winterized my boat I filled the tank and added Marine StaBil. Yesterday I finally got the boat out, changed the lower unit oil, put on the muffs and fired up the engine. She started like she was brand new. Heres my question: Do I need to empty the tank before adding SeaFoam? I seem to remember a thread about it that stated you should not mix the two. Thanks everyone
