  1. I'm looking at my pix now and notice in some of them I'm holding the fish wrong Thanks for the heads up. I've always supported large fish by the tail but never really thought about damaging the jaw from opening it too wide or applying too much pressure to it :-/. I've never understood the fish on the ground thing either, I always thought it was best NOT to make too much contact (by hand or ground) with the body of the fish as this removes their protective slime coat. Thanks again for the info, hopefully I haven't killed any fish :'(
  2. You should really consider joining a local fishing club. They'll be able to point you to tournies as well as provide you with valuable tackle/lure tips specific to the bodies of water you're fishing. Maybe a few of the guys here can point you to a good club in your area as I'm not from S. Florida. Good luck!
  3. I'm not skilled enough to mix booze and sharp hooks yet. Don't want any of you gettin a new piercing
  4. question for the guys that fish black, do you fish this color in low light conditions or all the time? I may have the false assumption that darker colors were more of a low light color.
  5. lol, no. Happy hour with some friends.
  6. toss up right now, happy hour or fishin hour.... I'll let you know.
  7. This year has been great for me. I'm a little over 1.5 years for bass fishing and believe my progression is due largely in part to this awesome BR community. -My 5 biggest of '07 would have totalled around 15lbs, with a 7lbs. 2oz. PB -My 5 biggest for '08 so far almost at 25lbs, with the biggest being 5lbs 6oz. but I've lost a few that would have easily broken this. -In '07 I only threw senkos, this year I learned to use buzzbaits, topwater frogs, flukes, tubes, drop shots, shakey heads, and swimbaits! Hopefully I break my PB this fall. ;D
  8. They work now.... :-? Maybe FiOs doesn't like your poor resolution pix Nice fish though!
  9. Excellent report! Pix don't work though
  10. At least in my case, I find that when I work a color I'm not too comfortable with I don't work it as long and in many times differently (action wise, often rushing it). By doing this, I don't give other colors a chance and assume they don't work. I can't really break this habit or belief because if I'm in a situation where I'm changing lure colors to something outside my norm it's usually because I'm about to get skunked and I'm already flustered! I guess I should try working other colors earlier. :-? My confidence colors include watermelon/red, green pumpkin/black, and baby bass.
  11. Nice Fish! I haven't had much luck with the black/red rage toads but might give them a try now!
  12. We should definitely do this again, less the rain. Mudkart caught a 2.5lber early at Royal. We left and went to a different body of water to escape the weeds in Royal. There Trev and Flippin4it hooked up with some nice ones. flippin4it biggest came while we were all just standing around each other chit chattin. It was nice seeing everyone again and great to meet Mudkart.
  13. looks different on google maps then it does driving by on the highway. This is the pond behind the white biulding with the grafitti on it right? I might be imagining the grafitti but I'm pretty sure it's there. Google maps kinda makes it look like two bodies of water too.... Let us know how it goes Ron! Save some fish for us if fishing is permitted!
  14. I'm in! LETS DO THIS!!!!!!! How's royal on a boat at night? scurry?
  15. I always see this pond when I'm driving down to my friends farm pond and have always been tempted to wet a hook in it. Maybe one day I'll stop by and see what the deal is.
  16. Has to be soon. Wayne says the lake closes on the 13th!
  17. sounds like i'm fishing. let me check with the ball and chain and I'll get back to you.
  18. When? I was actually thinkin about this last night. I want to get in on this evening buzzbait action I keep hearing about.
  19. A couple more of these would have been nice. Maybe we should try back when the lotus plants die off a bit.
  20. Great Pix! Those are some nice lookin smallies!
  21. I caught one close to 3 pounds in the early spring/later winter this year when we were all out there for the first meet. The sucka couldn't resist my megabass.
  22. I think I'm going to give this lake another try in October off the yaks. I know there are some fatties in there and they're callin my name!
  23. Threw a swim bait this weekend and caught a nice 4lb. 6ozer off a lake fork magic shad. The fish nailed it hard and put up a real nice fight. I had a lot of missed strikes on the magic shad as well (probably too small to take the lure). Also had some luck with flukes, but the majority of my strikes (and misses) were off a ghost minnow buzz bait.
  24. Nope, ended up with a few largemouth with Dan having the biggest at about 4lbs. I did hook into something in the AM with my rage tail that snapped my fluoro leader but we'll never know what it was. We were in the water around 7ish and out around 1:45. Pretty slow day for us. I spent a good part of the day confused as to what to throw. I was totally out of my element with all the large lotus/lily pads everywhere. Lures that worked for us were stik, trick, and curly tail worms Colors that worked were black/blue and green/white Maybe we should have fish Lunga :-/ It was a beautiful day though! It was also a pleasure to fish with Dan again.
