going down to visit my father next week and would like to know of any other boat rental lakes in the area, already heading to fountainhead so any others within an hour of falls church would be appreciated. i read that fountainhead is tough right now, but new water is new water and hoping to get my pops to come out and join me. also any recommended tackle shops in the area? thanks.

Laser lures
my 2 cents, i own a couple of laser lures and did some research about red light and water, and fish before i bought them. im no expert so take this with a grain of salt. what i have concluded that in clear water the laser light, if it had an effect would max out at around 6-8ft. so you need the vibration/water displacement of the lure to bring the fish close enough for the laser to have effect. now as the water gets dingier, the radius that the laser would effect would decrease drastically. now if you add sunlight that decreases the lasers effect to about 1 foot, sorry dont think that laser light competes at all with the sun to be noticed. now that doesnt mean that the laser doest have another effect that we dont notice, it could, as there are properties about laser that differ than other forms of light that i am not educated about to discuss. but i gotta think that they should have a noticeable effect for night time fishing in clear water, which hopefully someone will try cause i dont have the opportunity to.

Ok Bassresource.com Members... You Make the call
i gotta an inflatable pontoon, i would of built it off the ramp since it appears there's the space. takes me about 20min to build, so i need to be very conscious of where im setting up. i would say definitely inconsiderate on his part. interference would be a legal matter it seems and since he is launching i dont think hes interfering except with you. that law is there so swimmers, families, and such dont setup there and think they dont have to move cause they were there first.

Manhattan boat project (foldcat)
after a long winter and a nagging monkey on my back i got the boat to where i wanted it to be. set the motor up to pull instead of push. added more aluminum planks to have a full floor attached with velcro. put the seat on a 13" riser instead of 7". put the depth finder (portable setup built on a cooler with batteries inside, and weathersense, and smartcast attached to the outside) up on a pedestal attached with release-a-seats for break down. installed a proper anchor setup. used a tote-em-pole to store the rods vertically and out the way. added a release-a-seat towards the rear to get the seat out of the way when i want to stand and fish.

Laser Lure----yes again!!
fish reacting to lasers. bass i ordered a couple but havent had the opportunity to throw them much. i believe it is a small laser not a led,(it messed up my vision like a laser does) that shoots through and diffuses in the bill, . i would say they would work best in a clear lake,on a cloudy day, (might be a great night lure) with the translucent lure body to maximize the laser effect. lure quality otherwise is ok. i believe from the videos that there is something with lasers and fish, not just red light, but i dont believe it is implemented properly in these lures, but i still need to throw them more before i discount them. i would be curious to hear if anyone took them night fishing.

Laser Lure
fish reacting to laser. bass tried to find some info "Light conditions in water differ from those on land not only in their intensity but also in the depth of penetration of the various wavelengths. The longer wavelengths (i.e. red, orange) are absorbed first, with over 25% of red light being absorbed in the first metre of water. Violet, on the other hand, becomes indistinguishable below a depth of 100 m or more (Nikolsky 1963). Since a high percentage of red light is filtered out in the first few metres of water, bright red fishes are common. Fishes that are solid red in colour are generally either nocturnal or live at moderate depths (Chech and Moyle 1982). In both situations, red light is virtually absent and a red fish tends to fade into the background rather easily. However, many shallow water fish also have red spots or lines. It is thought that such colouration is important in recognition and/or breeding; red colours would be highly visible over short distances but is difficult to see over large lateral distances (water absorbs the red) (Chech and Moyle 1982). The visual spectrum of fish depends on the nature of their habitat; fish which live in predominantly shallow waters are more sensitive to the longer wavelengths of light (red) while, as depth increases, the visual spectrum narrows considerably, starting with the longer wavelengths (Nikolsky 1963). The majority of fish can distinguish colours quite well although the maximum distance they can see is apparently not greater than 15 metres (Nikolsky 1963)." the article could use a better editor but heres the link: http://www2.hawaii.edu/~delbeek/delb12.html im guessing the fish are not accustomed to seeing red since it disappears under 6'-9', in another article which i cant find now it stated the fish prefered red over green lasers. but i think there also has to be something with the laser, maybe the frequency it cycles at or how its projected. so i ordered a couple, we'll see.

battery setting charger question
you need to find out what the max amp charge the battery can handle. my cabelas 24 series agm can handle 14 amps. i would think that you could charge at 6 amps if it is an autocharger that will drop amps as the battery gets full.

i have a 55# on my fc325 (single seater) and i can get up to 3.6mph by gps.- Tackle Warehouse demo program??????
genius idea, hopefully they will do it with rods since different manufacturers rate their rods differently, a shimano medium is alot stiffer than a kistler medium- need more speed for electric tournements
could also put this (2hp) on the transom and have a 30# troller on the bow. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat21276-cat602014&id=0053589019719a&navCount=4&podId=0053589&parentId=cat602014&masterpathid=&navAction=push&catalogCode=IJ&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat602014&hasJS=true- what side do you fish from?
funny that you mention this, cause i just realized i always fish a lake clockwise, there by fishing off the port side.- flippin' from a Pontoon
i looked over some of the photos from the inflatable post. you could consider dropping a cut piece of plywood across the toons and have it come up to your seat, then raise your seat with a 13" riser.- tackle and baitmonkey
honey, i am helping stimulate the economy.- Manhattan boat project (foldcat)
found the boat on ebay for $600 it was refurbished by the manufacturer, they no longer make the single seater, but if you goto seaeagle website they have a 2 and 4 person model.- inflatable
heres a review of my boat http://www.tackletour.com/reviewsefoldcat.html as inflatables go seaeagle seems to be the best out there, their material is durable as i am quite abusive with it, i run it on to shore and run it over shallow branches, and have alot of confidence with it. and they have several designs that fit many needs.- inflatable
mine http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1216024869/8- i got a boat!!(TM Question)
i use the 24 size of http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat21276-cat350007&id=0023033016446a&navCount=1&podId=0023033016446&parentId=cat350007&masterpathid=&navAction=push&catalogCode=UJ&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat601233&hasJS=true and i carry 2 of http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0036388018049a&type=product&cmCat=SEARCH_all&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&Ntt=12v&Ntk=Products&sort=all&Go.y=0&_D%3AhasJS=+&N=0&_D%3Asort=+&Nty=1&hasJS=true&_DARGS=%2Fcabelas%2Fen%2Fcommon%2Fsearch%2Fsearch-box.jsp.form1&Go.x=0&_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1 i have been out for 12 hours and not drained my trolling battery (8-10hrs should be real safe), and my humminbird 797 lasts about 10hrs on one of the smaller batteries. a nice bonus with the smaller batteries is if your trolling battery dies, you can use one of the smaller ones to get you to shore.- i got a boat!!(TM Question)
i have a 55# on an inflatable pontoon style boat, sea eagle foldcat, and i get 3.5 mph top speed. like the others i recommend getting a 55, even if it means going without a fishfinder a little while, and since you cant get more power witout a big headache of a second battery, you wont have that nagging feeling to upgrade.- Manhattan boat project (foldcat)
so after doing research since last season and slowly getting it together whenever funds allowed, i finally got a decent boat that can go from a manhattan apartment into a car then on the water. loaded on cart its a sea eagle foldcat 325 (single seater), with mk 55# trolling motor, a cabelas size 24 agm 12v battery, and a humminbird 797 ff with 2 mini 12v batteries, with 2 transducers one side imaging, one quadrabeam. it takes 20 minutes to build and breakdown (which should drop a little with the new pump ive ordered) with all the accessories. i have gotten over 12 hours use with the agm 12v battery and tm combination with moderate use. 10+ hrs out of the mini 12v battery and the ff combo on all day. Max speed is 3.4 mph monitored by gps, with the boat having to be driven a little sideways to counteract the drag created by the side mounted transducer bracket. i have now put the quadrabeam transducer on the tm and need to figure out how to get the si transducer and bracket to be more centered on boat to keep the drag from the bracket from twisting the boat. it a great boat and couldnt be more satisfied, need to get a 4'x8' sheet of plywood (birch?) and cut it to make decking to fit between the aluminum slats perfectly instead of with the gaps i have now, and two more on either side of the front bar to extend decking to the front bar and to create storage in front of the bar. this will allow me to have a larger platform to fish from, and will allow me to kneel to get heavier fish out of the water. i usually drive it normal to move from spot to spot, but once there ill spin the handle around and have the tm pull me, considering adding another seat quick release to the front slat so i can move the seat out of the way and operate the tm while standing on a 4'x4' deck. hope this helps anyone on a similar quest. - Trolling Motors
