  1. I agree, it was a lot better back in the 90's. That lake is WAY down from what it used to be. I'm talking 5'-6' low. From what I've heard we can expect it to continue to shrink.
  2. I've been at it for 40 yrs and I still backlash every day I fish. I had a few good ones my first day out this year but most are pretty minor. I see plenty of Pro's picking at their reels on occasion too. Just keep at it and you'll see positive results over time.
  3. Good job! Gotta love our weather here, changes by the hour and sometimes big swings.
  4. I was on White Bear today. Been near 20 yrs since I was out there. Surface temps 61-63. I saw no beds. We caught some bass and enough mini gators that I likely will never return. Lake was a bit busy today, but I expected it would be. Launch ramp is kind of a PITA, but parking lot is great! Bass were caught on jerk bait, spinnerbait, Senko, Fluke and one on a jig. Biggest was around 19"(jerkbait) , most were 13"-15" and came from depths of 2'-8'. Maybe 12-15 bass were caught and they were really spread out.
  5. Coak, I believe the Verano is a Helios. If it's not I'd be very surprised.
  6. Thorne Bros had a nice selection of Smiths if those interest you. I bought a pair last year and like them about the same as my Costa's.
  7. LOL....yep, it happens. I've donated my share to chemistry in the past too!
  8. Is Pinnacle a sponsor here? I don't see a sponsor banner for them on the list, yet there are all these glowing reviews of their products by Staff. I do see Okuma in the list but never any mention of them anywhere.
  9. I've experimented with them all. A really clean stock bearing not, over lubed, can exhibit stellar performance....or it may not. I have had some that no matter how much I cleaned them they just didn't spin well. In the trash they go! I tried hybrids with very light lube and dry, heck, if I can run them dry that's an advantage for me across the season, not having to lube them or worry about it. So, now I'm running dry hybrids, no seals or shields, in most of my reels. I don't notice much difference in casting distance but they cast easier and pitching ability is slightly improved. I have never done any objective distance tests as I'm not a long caster.
  10. Suppoedly. I just bought a set for my trolling motor. Very expensive!
  11. Well, they are a great addition to anyone's garden once caught!
  12. They are fun to catch! I have no love for them though...
  13. Worth the hype and then some! I only have 1 8ft on my 19' Champion. 2 of them is nice but you can get along fine with 1....and 1 is a HUGE advantage over none! I don't know how I would get along without one now. Do I want another? Yep! Do I need it? Nope. Will I get another one? I might, maybe next year.
  14. Every place has the same issue....too crowded. It's best to pick a place to live and then have time and money to travel and experience the many opportunities around the country. I want to experience some incredible striper and spotted bass fishing and the answer ain't my home state of MN! I agree with Catt....I HATE cities...and traffic! I avoid going downtown as much as possible
  15. And, if you get your arse handed to you by "the planers", you are still the better man....just not flush with cash. All part of the politics of tournament competition. You can either be one of them or you can have a clear conscience.
  16. They did, but I'm guessing they might not for awhile yet. They are very popular (for good reason) and it's bass season everywhere now so if they go on sale again before August I'll be surprised. They are still a good buy at $99!!
  17. Wow, I'll say it is! I bet he has the most impressive bass theme man cave in the country. Vintage gear, new JDM gear et al..... and a heckuva library.
  18. Carp can be very light biters. I'd use your fingers like J Francho said. It is what I use, that and watching the bend in my line. I have had lots of carp bites that would never trigger a bell
  19. No, I haven't fished their tuned models, and probably never will. I have the Producer LTE now and I think that's as far as I'll go with Pinnacle. I'm most happy with Daiwa and Magforce Z right now.
  20. I have the PL-100 also. It was my 2nd baitcast reel, I just don't remember what year I got it. Seems to me it was sometime in the mid/late 70's but could be later I suppose. Original sales receipt is not in the box and I can't find any dates on the box anywhere. i'm going to put some good spool bearings the PM-100 and swap to a longer 80mm handle if I can find something I like. Other than that just clean it up good and relube and catch a few fish with it. Should be an interesting blast from the past!
  21. I have a couple of the ZX rods and they are hard to beat for the cost. Sensitivity is great in my opinion, probably on the level of a Shimano Compre or even a little better. I have the 6'9" jerkbait/topwater and 7'3" frog. I used the 6'9" rod last fall for dragging tubes for smallies and liked it so much I bought the frog rod. I'm thinking about trying one of the spinning rods next.
  22. I asked this on another forum and thought I'd ask here too... What reel signifies the origin of Daiwa lo-pro "ultralight" or BFS casting reels? I have acquired an old Procaster Mini (PM-100) labeled as "ultralight" and I know of no others before these. If there is/are others, what are they? The Procasters supposedly arrived in early 80's?? I do know Daiwa also offered the Millionaire Mini (round) but I'm keeping this to lo-pro reels for now.
  23. They are every bit as good as Pinnacle!
  24. They also work better for fishin' floats to keep more line off the water for better control.
  25. My new charger just arrived today! My original charger that came with the boat is still working fine but it is 18 yrs old so I'm "updating" with a new Minn Kota PC 330. The other will continue it's use in the winter in the garage to keep the batteries charged. You might consider this one.... http://www.hodgesmarine.com/SearchResults.asp?Search=Minn+kota+PC+220&Search.x=0&Search.y=0 Dual Pro chargers (Charging Systems International) are also really good and very popular. This is what the original unit in my boat is, 18 yrs and still going.
