  1. I have a bunch of finesse rigs, spinning and casting. Of the spinning rigs, my favorite is Avid 6'3" M/XF w/Cabela's Verano 2500 spooled with 6 lb Trilene XT. It is pretty much my dedicated Slider rod which is probably my all time favorite finesse method. Of my casting rigs, I am still too new to this BFS game to have a favorite but I am very fond of a custom rod DVT Mike built that I used for finesse cranks last fall. I had a TD-Z 103P w/1016 spool mounted on that rod and just hated to put it down. Was very fun to fish with.
  2. Anybody else here used any of Prowler's tubes, or anything else for that matter? I like some of their tubes, a lot, and wondering if anybody else here uses their products. Used to be easy to get them direct but they changed all that now.
  3. Braid is night and day difference in sensitivity vs mono. You could tie braid to a tree branch and feel bites. But, I think A-Jay already made this point without the dramatic example.
  4. Wow. It blows my mind to think of what a disadvantage I'm at in my over 40 yrs of bass fishing since I've never been able to develop the trait of instinct for bite detection. That would be a real advantage for sure. How would one go about this?
  5. I have fished Tonka plenty in years past, both for recreation and competition. I have a 19' bass boat and will not go there anymore unless I have to....and I haven't had to in many years now. I miss the excellent fishing but I don't want to deal with the traffic out there anymore. The channels and yachts just tick me off.
  6. That's smart money! Plus you support local business and economy. I do the same thing with rods. I have bought some used ones in the past that were shipped to me but I'm not doing that anymore unless I know the person selling them. I'll only buy new rods locally now.
  7. I have 3, one got used a LOT with 14lb mono throwing spinnerbaits..... no grooves. Cranked with the other 2 using mono, but they didn't get used nearly as much....no grooves.
  8. Looking good is a bit different than being freaky about fishing tools. You didn't add that selecting bait/lure color to match would be part of your program too? Why not? If you've gone to all that trouble, including your line....why neglect what dangles from the end of it all? I have absolutely no perception of style or coordinating where fishing gear is involved. I try to throw together what I need and hope I get it right and that's as far it goes for me.
  9. sold yesterday by 3pm. The other, which is not as nice, has gone way past that one in price now. $110 was a good buy for somebody.
  10. Jeff H replied to Tyler j's topic in Fishing Tackle
580G Man o war green mirror. Was blown away with the clarity.
  11. Is it yours? Never mind....had a look and seller location is not the same, so.....it's not. But, it does look to be a very nice Sol at a good price!
  12. I use 50lb or 65lb for flippin' and froggin' heavy cover because I can. If I ever get arrested for that I'll reconsider.
  13. That is what I thought too, but the Prodigy is an Exceler. It has aluminum frame but composite sideplates (both sides) and a 4bearing handle which means, to me, it's only a good deal when it's on sale for $70.
  14. Husky Jerk 12 in Tennessee Shad remains my top producer and thus my favorite.... in colder water. When it warms up some, the X-Rap has been better. But, I've caught lots on a lot of different brands including Rogues, Bombers, LC and Storm et al. Looking forward to using the Shadow Rap soon!
  15. I'd like to get on Pepin sometime myself. Sounds fun!
  16. I'm thinking about trying a Winn on my next custom
  17. Ford man here New F-250 Super Duty coming next year or the year after, last truck I'm ever likely to buy and I'd have nothing else!!
  18. I don't know yet where I'm going, but most likely to be in Wisconsin. I don't care for the cluster**** of opening weekend here. But yeah...I'm stoked and ready to get at 'em.
  19. Just do it. I regret that I never got into it. I took a class in 1987 and built a glass crankin' rod on a Sage blank. After that I never pursued it and I regret it every time I pay for a custom now.
  20. Get those knobs that rippin'- lips is offering you. They are exactly what you want, and cannot get from Daiwa anymore. The HSTA has a 90mm swept handle and the knobs carry 2 bearings each. The Zillion 50th knobs are the same thing as the HSTA.
  21. If I need more tail action than a Power Worm, I grab a Culprit.
  22. No 4lb for me, not yet anyway. I will be this season though. I will be using 4lb mono on my Daiwa Presso. I also just bought some 6/2 Fireline to try too. I used 6lb quite a bit last year on some casting rigs.
  23. I don't necessarily dislike my Tatula's as mine worked great last season but, I'd just rather use/buy a Fuego or TD-Z. I prefer free floating spool design but I resent (now) having to pay $300 to have that. It is for that reason alone I won't own a TWS Zillion. I had thought I might get one at one point but then I realized I can get some really nice, used Daiwa reels for a lot less than that.
  24. Oy! Really? I guess then I'm glad bought those last 2 when I did. But....the Fuego still functions VERY well with the stock spool and will always be a reel worth having! And...for what it's worth I'd rather buy old TD-Z's and Fuego's than new Tatula's
