HOT TIMES!!!
Depends on the water I am fishing. The fifteen acre lake in my subdivision becomes easy to fish in the summer. The deepest part of the lake if near the dam. I just go there and fish a Texas rigged worm. If I am fishing on a larger impoundment, like Lake Talquin just to the West of Tallahassee, I look for the spots where the old river or creek channel comes closest to shallow water. I'll fish the shallow water early and, as the day heats up, concentrate on the deepest water closest to the bank. I love throwing crankbaits at this time of year.

Under-rated reels
Pflueger Trion baitcaster. This is the smoothest, most bulletproof reel I have ever owned. I bought on last year in a 5.1:1 for use as a spinnerbait reel. I have now put it on my new American Rodsmiths David Fritts Cranking rod. I'm going to sell my Revo SC, which I have never liked, and buy another Trion.

American Rodsmith's David Fritts Crankbait Rod
I got mine in yesterday. I am SOOOO glad I didn't spend the big bucks on the Skeet Reese rod. This thing is wonderful. I was a little nervous about ordering the medium heavy action, but it turned out to be exactly what I was looking for. I can't wait until Sunday afternoon when I can go to Lake Talquin and try some deep running crankbaits.

What are "Ponds"
I am originally from Kentucky and, when we talked about a pond, it implied a farm pond. My friends from Texas would call that a tank. I fish in a fifteen acre "lake" that my displaced yankee neighbors insist on calling a pond. The vagaries of the English language are wonderful to behold.

BPS Woes
I placed an order Sunday afternoon and still haven't received notice that it has shipped.

Camping
I'm the best Holiday Inn camper around. I have sleep apnea and use a CPAP machine, so I have to have electricity.

Give Up One?
I gave up hunting and skiing in 1990 when I got transferred to Florida. It's warm enough to bass fish all year.

American Rodsmith's David Fritts Crankbait Rod
I ordered the MH yesterday with my Father's Day BPS gift cards. I'll let you know how I like it in a week or so.

weird lures....
Generally speaking, products like these are not sold in stores for one of two reasons. 1. No reputable sporting goods dealer wants his name associated with them. 2. People would not buy them if they see how cheaply they are made.

Elite series on Kentucky!
I loved watching the weigh-in today with the pros talking about catching their fish on $5 crankbaits while Rick Clunn's $15 baits didn't produce today.

Warning for guys who tow with Ford Rangers...
I just crawled under my '99 Mazda B2500 (a rebadged Ranger) and it shows no rust whatever. I don't even use a trailer hitch to pull my Bass Tracker, just the bumper.

Thinking about a a crankbait rod
I'm not sure about pulling a DD14 or DD22 with a Medium power rod.

Bad case of the dumbs on Kentucky Lake
If I was one of the spectators and I saw the mullet police ride by and not check a pro angler just like he would me or any other guy, I'd be ticked off. I'm always pleased to see them doing what we pay them to do.

Bad case of the dumbs on Kentucky Lake
I'm a pretty cautious guy. I would have bought a Tennessee license just to be safe.

Bad case of the dumbs on Kentucky Lake
Was there something in the water that gave Paul Elias and Tommy Biffle the dumbs yesterday? Biffle got a ticket for fishing in Tennessee without a license. It cost him the whole day's weight. Paul Elias, my favorite pro, brought six fish to the weigh-in. It cost him his biggest fish plus a one pound penalty. He also had a dead fish. Man, it's going to look like bumper cars out there tomorrow with all those tournaments at the same time.

Thinking about a a crankbait rod
I'm getting a couple of Bass Pro Shops gift cards for Father's Day and I am thinking about the American Rodsmiths David Fritts cranking rod for deep cranking the river channel on Lake Talquin. Does anyone have any experience with it? I thought about buying the Lamiglas Skeet Reese rod, but BPS doesn't seem to carry it any more.

Does anyone use the radio on the water?
I go fishing to get away from things like the radio. Of course, a little Patsy Cline makes any day a little better.

New Dicks sporting goods store?
I was in the new Dick's in Wesley Chapel a few weeks ago. They had a very limited selection of bass tackle. We are getting a Sportsman's Warehouse here in Tallahassee next month. I'm trying to hold off on buying much until I see if they have any great grand opening specials.

Mercury Force
Here's a little history on Force outboards from http://www.boatmotors.com/outboard/force/ The Force Outboard brand was born in the early 1980's when US Marine, the parent company of Bayliner Boats, purchased the old Chrysler Outboard factory and tooling located in Hartford, Wisconsin. Bayliner was the first nationwide company to introduce packaged outboard rigs in which the outboard motor, the boat and a trailer were sold as a single item. Arriving at dealerships fully assembled, these packages were great timesavers for dealers that previously had to custom rig bare hulls with specific engines and accessories chosen by the boats' buyers. Although Force Outboards lacked the technological sophistication of the major outboard brands, their price advantage was significant. Thousands of families discovered their love for boating through these inexpensive Bayliner entry-level outboard boats. In the mid-1980's US Marine was acquired by industry giant Brunswick Corporation (Mercury, Mercruiser, Sea Ray, etc.). The Force Outboard brand quickly benefited from the resources of its big brother Mercury, and all production was soon moved to Mercury's plants. Force Outboards became available on boat brands other Bayliner at dealerships nationwide. The changing marketplace, diminished price advantages and pending government regulations resulted in the decision to discontinue the Force brand in 1999.

My 1984 Mercury 50 hp is in the shop right now with the same problem. I'll let you know what the mechanic says when he calls.
