When you go fishing and camp (at a tournament or on vacation, for example), how do like to camp?

Tent is the way to go... for me anyway.

I don't really camp anymore, but I still have a nice tent and air

mattress. I would agree, "camping" involves a tent, not a house

on wheels.

8-)

Well if I go camping I want it to be in a camper! My hubby would much prefer a tent but I hate those things. I am too old, the ground makes my arthritis hurt and there are bears in the woods. I hate bears. If I wanna see a bear I will go to the zoo or something. At the very least I wanna door beteween us if I see one. My first pick would be what  BucketmouthAngler13 last said. I would choose a suite at the Hilton first every time.  ;D

Tent or just throw out a sleeping bag on the ground with a fire close by. Never had any issues.

IMHO anything but a tent, lean-too, hammock, or ground pad aint camping.

You might as well stay at a Hilton. ;)

x2  nothing beats laying back on your bag and watching the shooting stars thru your "moonroof"  as for bears..  that is why man made Ruger, smith and wesson, colt, etc... for.

Good question. I have been tent camping since I was 8. At first it was in those old canvas Boy Scout Explorer tents--no floor, and they leaked like crazy in the rain. Later I got a little two-man A-frame tent made out of nylon, and with a floor and a fly. I might as well have been staying in a Hilton.

Around that time, I started using a foam pad under my sleeping bag. I couldn't believe the increase in comfort!

Then came a four-man tent, even though only two of us usually slept in it. Such space!! You could almost stand up in it! About that time, the foam pads started getting thicker and thicker, and I started sneaking a pillow along whenever it was feasible.

These days it takes a little longer to work the stiffness out in the morning, and the luxuries include battery-powered lanterns to read by in the tent. I doubt I'll ever get a camper, but it's fun to look and how my tent-camping has evolved.

I'm the best Holiday Inn camper around.  I have sleep apnea and use a CPAP machine, so I have to have electricity.

I love camping in a tent.  I am lucky enough to live near Land Between the Lakes which offers multiple camp grounds as well as the opportunity for backwoods camping.

Nothing like loading up the trucks, gettin some friends together and driving out to the woods and setting up camp with 50 feet of KY or Barkley lake and not having anyone with a mile or so.

The only time I camp is when we take the horses riding far from home. We sleep in the camper part of the horse trailer where there is a bed, table, cabinets, etc... And yes, that IS camping.

Started off with the back of a truck when I was a kid with my parents then moved up to a small camper then a pull behind camper.   As an adult now I use a tent if I wanted all the luxurys of home then I would just stay home.  When I was younger and went camping with freinds I can remember one time being close to sugar corn field and we would take ears of corn with the shuck on and lay them in the hot coals and have corn for dinner.  It was really good.   I would also imagine with fuel going sky high tent camping will be on the rise too.

I don't get to camp much anymore, about once a year.  When we do go, it's always in a tent.

But as a kid growing up, I think we camped in just about everything and traveled all over.  My parents belonged to somekind of camper club where we could stay in just about any campgrounds for cheap.  I sure do miss those days.

I am not a fan of camping, but If I was locked out of my house I would sleep in the back of my truck.

This is becoming a huge problem for me. I am a poor college student, and try to find the cheapest way to stay overnight for tournaments. The first tournament I slept in my car (AWFUL). The second tournament I decided to sleep on an air mattress on my buddies boat. I overlooked the fact that the mosquito's would eat me alive and the bugs would be crawling all over me. At about 2 a.m. I decided to break into my buddies truck and sleep there. This was a bad decision. I had to get my bag with all my valuables after I got into the truck. So I opened the door and the alarm started sounding. I took a look up and down the road, and booked it to where he was sleeping woke him up, got the keys, and slept in his truck. Again this was horrible. It was HOT I was sweating the whole night didn't sleep a wink. I got up at 4 a.m. took a shower, and got ready. Both tournaments I slept less then a total of 4 hours for.

I am trying to keep my expenses down.

I drive a small car.

I need some advice from you guys who have been through it.

Well i've never been to a tournament so I dont know, but can you not sleep in a tent? Seems like that gets rid of the bugs and it wont be hot and stuffy? Even if you have to set up your tent right behind the truck, just use an air mattress
