  1. I have always wanted to try these baits but never have....
  2. Yeah I believe that one. Bass are just like people. You can get some long skinny 16 inch bass that are only 2 lbs and some big fat 16 inch bass like yours which are 4 LBS. That 4LB bass is going to grow up to be a 10+ most likely. Looks like he eats a lot.
  3. Here is another pic that might help. This bass was caught thismorning and weighed 1 LB 7 OZ. This guy was a pretty fat little fish too yet was well short of 2 LBS. I guess that 14-15 inch bass often do not even weigh 2 lbs. However I have seen a pic on here somewhere else of a 15 inch bass that was weighed that was 3 LBS exactly and was very fat. Here is my 1 LB 7 OZ bass.
  4. I actually forgot my tape measure that day . Good thing is I did take a quick picture of that bass. Here it is. Yeah he looks bigger than 1 LB 1 OZ but its just the angle of the camera shot that makes him look bigger.
  5. I had the exact same day as you today at my local pond. Well I was out for an hour and a half and caught three bass....too bad my biggest bass was only 1 LB 1 oz . All my fish were caught on 6 inch purple roboworms too. That was the only bait I could get them to take, I had a 4 inch senko rigged up on the other rod and the bass wouldent even take that
  6. A long time ago a friend gave me some of these lures and I never caught anything with them. Maybe I was just bad at useing the bait. It seemed like you were supposed to use them the same way as a fluke yet I hammer bass on flukes and have caught absolutely nothing on these banjow minnows. I would suggest picking up some bass assassin or zoom flukes instead. They are much better lures from what I have experianced.
  7. A day like your actually sounds like a good day. You caught a 5lber and a few nice fish in the 2lb range.... If I caught fish like that then ended up loseing one I wouldent be too angry. Now If I had caught nothing but dinks all day then lost a nice 5LB+ fish id be pretty ticked...
  8. Now thats what a REAL 4 LB bass looks like.....
  9. I always thought your pb largemouth was the one in your avatar that was in the low 7 LB range? Im guessing you mean pb on that type of bait though
  10. Great fish you got there. Welcome to the forums....
  11. bass109 I didnt mean to sound rude in my last post...so sorry if you interpreted it that way. I never was raving about the snake lure being bad. I honestly cannot say that since I havent tried the lure. The snake lure works great for you in the lake you were fishing which is a fact, im just saying since everyone fishs different lakes and rivers it will not work for everone. Some fishermen do great with a lure and others do terrible with the same lure yet not all of it is to do with the skill of the angler. Most anglers on here know the basics of useing each type of bait anyway. Under the conditions you were under the snake worked and under the conditions others were under it did not. Maybe you should go back to that same lake you caught the bass in and fish other types of topwater baits and see if they produce just as well. Thats all I was saying. Fishermen can argue about how good or bad a bait is all day especially on the internet and it will not change the other guys opinion. The reason for this is each fisherman has a different style of fishing, different strangths and weakness, and most of us fish different lakes. Im not goin to post on this thread anymore since I have said everything I wanted to say already. Again bass109 I honestly do not mean to sound rude and I am glad that the snake lure works for you
  12. The baits that came natural for me were the original floating rapalla and the senko. The original rapalls was the first bait I became confident in and it caught me some nice fish when I was first learning how to fish. I learned the senko much later but the second time I used this bait I got a nice 4LB+ bass....
  13. I live in California and release carp all the time. I dont think it is illegal to put them back and no one has ever given me a problem because I release them. Even if it was illegal to put them back I would still do it. I feel they are a great game fish just like bass. Also I dont get what I would do with a carp if I were to kill it? I dont know how to cook them and I would never leave a fish on the side of the lake just to kill it...
  14. I bought some X-Raps a while back and from what you guys have said this bait works better when the water is starting to cool off. The water in my area has cooled off and the water is a little bit murky at this point. I live in southern California and the water has been stained with ash from the recent fires in my area. I have been hammering decent size fish on rattle trap type baits. Anyway the water is a bit more clear now yet is still murky in some spots in the lake I am planning to fish tomorrow. It will probably clear up then get murky again quickly since the water is cooling down and the plant life will die off. Just wondering if you guys think the X-Rap slashbait will produce bass at this time or not. I know how to work the bait so that does not need explaining. I am just wondering if under the current conditions the bait will work? Also do you guys find the bait produces better in clear or murky water?
  15. bass109 i guess your lake has the right conditions that get fish to bite the snake lure....at least at this time of year under the current conditions...... Before you start raveing about a lure being good you have to have fished with the bait a while using it in many different ways to react to different conditions. If a bait can catch bass under different conditions depending on how you use it then it is indeed a good bait. From reading SENKOSAM's post it seems the snake only has one type of action. I do not know though maybe he just has not found other good actions for the lure but from what he says it is a one dimensional bait that does not give you a lot of options in throwing it under different conditions. Also did you try other baits besides the snake when you caught that decent bass? There might have been other baits that they would want to eat even more. Maybe the bass in that lake were very aggressive. What I am saying is you should try fishing the bait under many conditions before you say it is a great lure....
  16. This is quite funny to read considering I know the real weight
  17. Guys I think everyone here is missing the point of why these snake lures work or do not work. I have never used them so I cannot comment on the lure. However we all fish different types of lakes in different locations. In some lakes a lure will load the boat with nice bass and in another lake you will get skunked with the same lure. There are lots of factors contributing to if a lure works or not such as temperature, structure, what bass in that lake feed on, and many other things. In some areas where there are lots of snakes that swim across lakes these lures probably would work but if you live in an area with not many snakes they would not. I personally do not buy lures that look like snakes, ducks, rodents and things like that because I always have believed using baits that looks like a bass's most common food(baitfish, worms) will catch more fish. Thing is that these snake lures and any lure for that matter will not work under all conditions and in any body of water.....
  18. Great report with some nice pics. That first smallmouth is a lunker and that first largemouth is a little football. Amazing how a 15 inch largemouth can weigh 3 LBS. Bass that long are usually in the 2LB range.
  19. I was in the part of San Diego where the river is today and decided I would check out the rive itself. I know absolutely nothing about this river and was wondering a few things. First and most important thing is does it have any fish in it? If so what kind of fish are in there? Im guessing it has bass and channel cats if it has any at all. I was able to get close to the shoreline and it seems to be a VERY fishy looking river yet the water is realy dirty and I could not see one fish so I do not know if there are fish in it? The next thing I want to know is are you allowed to fish it? If so what are some good locations along the river to fish. I noticed there is very little access to the river at least at the part of the river I found.... Just wondering if there are any other san diego residents on this site that can answer these questions for me....
  20. I must be addicted to fishing. I got out almost every day. However 90% of my outings are only for 2-3 hours at a time either early morning or late evening.
  21. The first three baits you mentioned are all good baits. They are also pretty cheap for hardbaits even when not on sale...
  22. That is a huge brook trout. Realy nice catch.
  23. That is by far the best picture of avid and a fish I have ever seen.
  24. Here is the news story that goes with the pictures... Arlington angler reels in record-breaking pink salmon OLYMPIA Adam Stewart, a 19-year-old angler from Arlington, has set a new state record for the largest pink salmon caught in state waters, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) confirmed today. Stewart caught the 15.4-pound salmon Oct. 11 on the lower Stillaguamish River in Snohomish County, and immediately had its weight certified at a grocery store in Arlington. The fish was 31 inches long, with a girth of 24.75 inches, said Don Rothaus, a WDFW fish biologist. In certifying the catch, Rothaus noted the huge hump on its back, characteristic of male pink salmon returning to spawn. At first, I thought I had a coho on the line, said Stewart, a metal and glass cutter, who was fishing with spinning gear and 10-pound test line. Then that huge hump caught the current broadside and just starting peeling line off my rod. I didn't really know what I had until I got it to the beach, he said. The previous state record was a 14.86-pound pink salmon caught in the Skykomish River in 2001. That fish currently holds the world record as determined by the International Game Fish Association (IGFA), which also may put Stewart's pink salmon in line for that title. I know Adam has been in touch with the IGFA, said Keith Underwood, WDFW gamefish records coordinator. While Stewart's 15.4-pound fish claimed the state record for a pink salmon caught in freshwater, an 11.56-pound fish caught off Possession Point in 2001 still holds the state title for the largest pink salmon caught in saltwater. Pink salmon, which generally weigh three to five pounds, are the smallest and most abundant of the Pacific salmon. Also known as humpies, most pink salmon return to Washington waters in odd-numbered years. Nearly 3.3 million pink salmon are expected to return to rivers and stream in the Puget Sound area this year.
  25. Very strange fish. I want to catch one
