  1. I think they rate them low because of liability. I've wondered that before and that is all I can figure.
  2. Don't know if it helps any but there is a '96 like the one you described on my local Craigslist for $5,000. I personally don't know anything about them though. I don't know what part of Mass you are in but here is a boat I found on Boston Craigslist: http://boston.craigslist.org/nos/boa/643789445.html
  3. I live near Clarkesville. I'll pm you my email address and phone number. If you put in at Poplar Springs or Tugalo you can swing by here and not lose a lot of time at all. If you usually come up 985 it will be real easy, if not it'll be a bit longer than going up 85 to Lavonia which is what I figure you do. As far as that goes, just come up to get it and bring your reels with ya. We'll take my little boat up to Lake Tugalo if ya like. My wife don't like for me to fish by myself lol. Check your pm's Kevin
  4. Plenty of em, friend, but not while fishing Even a bad day is good if you're fishing!
  5. I took my wife fishing at a small (600 acre) lake this morning. Things didn't go as I'd hoped. I was wanting to get her into enough fish to keep her interested but I failed miserably. I only got three hits and one of those got off (no big deal, I believe it was a throwback anyway). But one that I got was a purdy gal. I didn't weigh her, but she measured 23" in length. I haven't fished enough tournaments the last few years to be any good at guessing weights anymore ;D Seems like I get a pretty good one every few outings. I gave up fishing large lakes unless my grandpa needs a fill-in partner for a tournament and got a small boat just to fish this lake because it has a 25 hp limit.
  6. I don't see much about these lures on here and they became among my favorites the first time I used one. I generally fish brush but fish it carolina rig rather than texas so I usually go through a worm much faster than if I do the texas rig due to the head of the worm hanging on limbs or whatever. With the hardnose baits I can fish the same worm not only for more retrieves but even after catching several fish most times. The body of the worm will eventually be too weak to cover the hook but the head if it moves anywhere will just slip up the line but be like new still. The only problem I have with them is that one of my favorite colors year round is Red Bug and they don't have any in red bug. I generally fish soft baits with just a few cranks or spinners mixed in for a few casts. The colors I have the best success with (and have for many years) are red bug, green pumkin, and watermelonseed. I have found several styles of hard nose baits in green pumkin. I haven't tried the watermelon red flake yet but there are no plain watermelonseed to my knowledge.
  7. hahaha, that is some of the best advice I've ever heard!
  8. If any of you have jon boats with gas motors under 25 hp, this may be your dream lake. Seems like I've caught as many 3+ lb bass as I have smaller ones. Here is one I got this morning. I didn't weigh it but I'm guessing 4 to 5 lbs. She measured 23" The lake has a 25 hp maximum limit and from the GA side 4X4 is required (signs posted) but it is on the GA and SC border so SC rules and limits apply as well. Only real difference is that GA limit for bream is 50 and SC limit is 30 so you have to adhere to the lesser of the two which is SC's.
  9. I just realized you are from GA. I've got one you can have as well if you ever come up this way I'm serious, bro, it's yours if ya want it. I never use it. Got one of the anchor attachments on my boat that you can have as well. One of those that lock automatically on the rope. Not expensive new, but ya still can't beat used and free! My granny used to have what I think was part of an old drive shaft as an anchor. Worked well too. If you use a mushroom, I would make the rope run from the eye in the top of the anchor then through an eye on the bottom so that if it digs up under something you can still pull it out because it will make it twist and pull from the bottom rather than hooking by pulling straight up.
  10. wow, I've never heard of Nucanoe. If it had the peddle prop on it it would be perfect! I like the peddler type because it would be so much easier to stay a little more upstream if ya wanted to. The lake I usually fish is much to deep to anchor. Only 600 something acres but well over 150' throughout most of the main body and into some coves it's still 50+ feet. Seems like that would be good exercise though. I'm up for exercising when it means FISHING!
  11. I don't have one but was wondering if anyone here used kayaks for fishing. If I knew anyone that did it I'd love to try it! From looking at this one: http://www.kayakfishingstuff.com/ri_fishing_kayak_view.asp?Fishing_Kayaks=25 it seems that they are adequately equipped for the type of fishing that I enjoy most. Kevin
  12. Thanks yall, I'll try those. I've made sure the vent was open and I've tried another fuel tank (out of my dad's boat) as well. Still does it. I'll try the fuel filter next and see how that does. Thanks Kevin
  13. Wilson, not all boats are the same, friend. I've fished from many jons over the years and there are great differences from one to another. His 14' from BassPro had a lighter limit than our Dad's 12' jon (and not a small difference at that), it was also narrower. I can't remember exactly what the limit was on it but I weigh in at 225 and my little bro is pushing 280. We were joking the first time we got in it about how far into the lake we'd be before we took to swimming . Got no reason to lie to you bud Here is the same boat I believe: http://www.trackerboats.com/boat/specs.cfm?boat=2863 Max weight capacity on it is 440 lbs. They say it is a 3 person boat, but max person weight is 325 ;D Must be made for very small men! btw, how much were you betting? I accept checks (j/k)
  14. The '85 or so 20hp Mercury motor on my little boat runs great at times and then for no apparent reason loses most of its power and sputters. It starts easy and idles fine, maybe a little rough but doesn't go dead or anything. Sometimes it starts out running great then goes to running bad, others it's just the opposite or never runs good at all on that outing. I've had the carbs rebuilt and was told they looked great to begin with. I know it's not the gas because it is fresh. The plugs are new as well. Any ideas? Thanks, Kevin
  15. +1 on the heat gun. A hair dryer will work as well, just takes a little longer.
  16. My little bro had a 14' jon that he just sold. When me and him would get into it without poles, boxes, batteries or ANYTHING we were over the weight limit. Add all that other stuff and it was waaaaaay over. Never had any problems with it though. As someone mentioned before they seem more stable to me when they have some weight in them.
  17. I've fished from several jon boats on rivers and lakes pretty much all of my life. When I was looking for a small boat for the small lakes around here I was really wanting a Pro 120. I wouldn't pay the new price for one but found several deals (some required long drives) on www.craigslist.com but most of them sold VERY quickly. I researched them long and hard and would have bought one without hesitation. I actually found a fiberglass tri-hull 15.5' with a 20 hp mercury and that ended my search for a pro 120. From what I've read on them you will not be hurting if you get one. I've never read a negative comment about them and if I ran across a deal on one now I'd still buy it! BTW, they are rated for 15hp motors if I remember correctly. They may be short but they are also wide and have foam built into the hull, hence the high weight capacity. If ya get one be sure to post pics and your impressions of it! Kevin edit: a quick search of RI craigslist found this: http://providence.craigslist.org/boa/625702306.html http://providence.craigslist.org/boa/593566929.html There are several other jon boats and fiberglass boats on there that I seen and I'm sure I missed some. Whatever ya get, I'll be happy for ya!
  18. Thank you. Figured that was what it was but just seeing the email without opening it I had no idea.

Yours Sincerely. Miss Olivet P. Douglass I'm sure it was a bad attempt at a scam but was wondering if I'm the only one who got one. 20. Hope it works. I like the JB Weld water weld. They carry it at Wal-Mart and it is like putty. You just knead it till the two colors in it are blended into one and put it on whatever you need to bond. Is that the same way as the one you used or did you get the more liquid kind? Just curious. I was wondering which would be better myself.
  21. My Dad ran a pot tournament for years when I was younger. they were in daytime in the spring and moved to nights in the heat of the summer. I LOVED fishing at night. Seemed like I had more patience and could feel fish better. I generally use pumpkin seed worms and finesse ones in brush piles. I tend to stick with the same old baits that I've been using since those pot tournaments but I usually catch fish I definitely agree about the black light. Just need a line that shows up good with it.
  22. she said she was washing the boat ;D three feet or so of it looked much better than the rest
  23. I had been using my Dad's: but I bought this one last week (havent' gotten it on the lake yet):
  24. My 3 yr old girl, she called it..lol
  25. No. I like decks but I'm planning on taking my kids (6 and 3) with me a lot so the sides are nice. My grandpa has a big bass boat that we fish out of in tournaments, this one is more for me, the wife and littluns to have fun in.
