  1. Things I'm catching with, within the last 2 weeks: 4 1/2 inch Spooks, 4" Powerbait pumpkin tubes, 7" pumpkin Powerworms T-rigged. The latter 2 weighted with various sized bullet weights strung free on line to hug the hook. Things I'm not catching with: Traps, cranks, Hula popers. Been working both dropoffs and shore. I nailed a very large (for my area) LMB last night on the T-rigged Powerworm on a 10 down to 18 foot dropoff. The sun was in and out of the clouds, the wind was brisk, and it was in the upper 50's. A front was comming, as T-storms rolled through about 4 hours later.
  2. I have the small Craftsman clip on led lights. They emit a soft blue light. Soft enough to keep your eyes fairly protected from dialation, yet offers plenty of light with all four bulbs on. I use all four to navigate and one or two for fishing needs. They don't exactly repel bugs, but I haven't noticed an increase in bug activity with them on.
  3. Ooooo, that's not going to go over well here at Shimanoresource.com ;D ;D ;D
  4. Ok, thanks. Another question is, if I decide on that rod, go with a casting setup, and get just the blank, would I gain much by having custom guide's and handle/reel seat put on??? I like the Loomis handles, don't have much of an opinion either way on the guides, but the reel seat's don't impress me. I see they already changed the GLX guides and seats from this spring, maybe they changes the whole lineup???
  5. I see the CB847 can be purchased as a blank. Can a casting blank be made into a spinning rod??? Maybe paired with a Pflueger 8035 Supreme reel???
  6. I listed that one first becouse I like the specs on it, but I wasn't sure if it was the real deal. I have one of their Walleye series rods, and I think there is some $$ added onto the rod just becouse it says "Walleye". It's priced in between the IMX's and GL3's, but I don't think it's any better than a GL3. I wasn't sure if the crankbait series was like that too.
  7. My dicks has a lot of there tubes on sale for 2.35. In the bargain bins though. Some tubes were not marked down. I picked up pumpkin/char laminate and watermeleon/copper/red flake. Excited to try them out for the spring time smallies coming up my local creek. The wait stinks! Yup, I picked up some bags of pumpkin tubes and 7 inch worms. I already know the bass like the tubes. 8-)
  8. I can't say for Bass, but I know Walleye see yellow and pumpkin orange (true pumpkin insides color, not lure pumpkin) the best, then green/yellow and standard orange. Then standard green and standard red. Darker colors like blues, browns and blacks they don't pick up as well. This is why they eat at night more than other fish, and hide from direct sun during the day. They are more sensitive to sunlight and sunlight type colors. I need to read into LMB more. I just know they don't see well at night, and don't have the best of smell sense. They do see well in light, have good lateral line (sense vibration), and good hearing.
  9. Must have been a Powerbait sale, not strictly a BPS sale. I picked up some locally on sale last week too.
  10. I figured out what was wrong. I started over again and found I was not using enough brake. Instead of messing with the cast control, I set the brake on 4 for pitching, and 8-9 for overhead casting and it worked good. Thanks again.
  11. Yup, saw that yesturday. If I end up with a casting rod for larger bait's, that will be the reel that goes on the rod, can't wait to touch one. 8-)
  12. I have finally had to admit the rod I am using for cranks isn't enough for some of the Spooks, bassoreno's, and larger cranks I have. So, right now I am looking at a few different rods. My guidelines are, Moderate-fast action, 17-20lb line, normally tossing 3/4 to 1oz lures with maybe a little bigger or smaller one once in a great while. Most likely the line will be braided with a floro leader. I have picked out, so far: Crankbait rod: CBR847C, CBR756C Bronzeback: SMR814C-CB Swimbait rod: SWBR955C (might be a little much???), SWBR904C Suggestions???? Opinions???? If anyone knows of a real good Spinning rod that fit's, I'd look at that too. I would like spinning/Loomis, but there isn't such a thing. Custom is not out of the question, and might even be a more likely route. TIA.
  13. Thanks guy's, I moved the reel to my 6' IMX 723C and it got just slightly better. I started out with the instruction's set up, and went from there. They were close to the attached articles set up. I'll have to try lighter settings and different release's.
  14. I've been fishing spinning set ups for many, many years. No problems casting them any way I want to. I used to cast baitcasters many, many years ago and had no problems with them. I just recently received my BPS's bionic plus reel in the mail. I've been playing around with it on a 5'6" casting rod with moderate fast action and pistol grip. I can cast a 3/8 oz casting plug pitching style with no issues at all. As soon as I try to cast overhead, I run into overrun issues and the plug goes diagonally down about 30 ft in front of me. A straight shot diagonally, no arc at all. I cast with my wrist, with no arm movement. I've tried softer casts, tighter reel settings...nothing. This is the same rod I used years ago, so I know it's not the rod. Am I missing something in the set up of the reel or is it just operator error??? TIA
  15. I've started to notice the same thing on my GLX too.

Black, pumpkin, and watermelon are the only color's I can say attract fish for me. I've caught fish with other colors, but when fishing is slow, it seems those colors get the fish to bite.
  17. Thanks guy's, I see a lot of reference to them as in having rods for them and being favorite lures, but I wasn't sure if they were technique specific or another type of worm. Has anyone taken the skirt off of a spinner/buzz bait and put a tube on?? Would that be an advantage?? I have some of those, but I can't remember ever catching a fish with one. I guess I should try them more, and different ways.
  18. I took a Stradic back becouse I couldn't get the bail to return, and bought the Supreme in the 30 size. I now have 3. Great reel for the price.
  19. I'm not willing to speculate whether that lure will work on bass or not, but I have seen, first hand, a rubber duck and various fake rodents catch nice northern pike.
  20. I use the Norman speed clips wherever I can, too.
  21. Well, it wasn't a monster, but... I decided to do some Crappie fishing as the noon sun came over head, so I headed to a Crappie hole. I dug out my little countdown size 1 Rapala fire and tried casting for them. About my 20th cast, something didn't feel right on the retrieve. I just figured I picked up the top of one of the weeds. As I get the lure almost to the boat. I notice my line isn't coming in straight. Hmmm, what's going on??? As it get's closer, I see the problem, I HAVE A FISH ON!!! LMAO as I see what it is, I bring it up to the boat. As I'm pulling it up to the boat from the water, the darn fish comes off the hook. It was a LMB about 3 times the size of the little #1 Rapala. Sometimes, moments like that are almost as nice as bringing in a lunker.
  22. I went to the store on friday, and they had Berkley Powerbait on sale. I read so much about tubes, I thought I would try some. I got some pumpkin 4" tubes and 7" pumpkin worms. I'm out in the boat with my new X-point hooks trying to decide how to try out these tubes. I decided to feed it onto the hook, skirt end first, then make the point of the hook come out the solid end of the tube. I slid it around so it was all past the end of the curve, and the skirt was past the eye of the hook. No weight mind you. I then casted out. Low and behold, I have a top water lure...that makes quite a comotion on the water....cool. Third cast out was the first of 6 hard strikes by some decent size bass (for that lake). So, how do people normally fish tubes???
  23. While this may be true, they are still a retail business, not a discount business. A retail business has an expectation of providing service with their product. This would include, but not be limited to, a good repair/replacement policy, a good exchange policy, a good return policy, and a good shipping policy. I hear/read thier return, exchange, and repair/replacement policy's are pretty good, but thier shipping policy seems to come up short. I have contacted them both on the phone and online, and I have yet to be able to find out the status of my order or been able to track it. This is where a lot of my concern lies. IMO, 8+ day's should be a worse case delivery time, not the norm. I'm most likley not going to completely hold this against them, but I do know I won't be ordering anything I need from them. There are plenty of places selling the products at the same price, if not cheaper, and will get them to you in a week or less. Look put it into perspective ITS FISHING EQUIPMENT NOT PRESCRITION DRUGS I am sure when I order from BPS they do not stop and say MUDDY NEEDS THIS REEL OR HE"S GONNA DIE< Ill drive it to him now! Lets put things into perspective. If I am on a trip or something breaks I need pronto I buy it in person On the spot. Their warranty/exchange and service depts have sevrved me and my buddies in an excellent fashion FOR Years, truthfully thts what keeps me coming back to them If I see something I like in either BPS or Cabels on thier web sites I order it and when it gets here it gets here. I use both sites, sometimes stuff comes right away sometimes I wait for it BIG DEAL I didnt have to drive far to get it. Geezz Its fishing equipment! PS Also when ordering some products( Especially non BPS Rods) there is usually a little tag on the site some where that says SHIPPING DIRECT FROM MANUFACTURER may cause delays. I wouldn't be too concerned if it was prescription drugs, I have 3 pharmacies within 11 minutes of my house. I'm not saying "don't shop there" or anything, I was just wondering if it was normal for them to be so slow with delivery and leaving you in limbo about order status. For most places, they can have orders filled within two day's, and then have it shipped, via ground, in 3-4 days. That's just standard retail business these day's.
  24. It's not just that store. I have noticed it at the local bait store here too. I've seen it on everything from bobbers to fishing line, to some baits.
