  1. A lot of you may have seen this and I don't know the truth behind it, but it can't hurt to put it out there for all. I've been in petroleum pipeline business for about 31 years, currently working for the Kinder-Morgan Pipeline here in San Jose, CA. We deliver about 4 million gallons in a 24-hour period from the pipe line; one day it's diesel, the next day it's jet fuel and gasoline. We have 34 storage tanks here with a total capacity of 16,800,000 gallons. Here are some tricks to help you get your money's worth: 1. Fill up your car or truck in the morning when the temperature is still cool. Remember that all service stations have their storage tanks buried below ground; and the colder the ground, the denser the gasoline. When it gets warmer gasoline expands, so if you're filling up in the afte rnoon or in the evening, what should be a gallon is not exactly a gallon. In the petroleum business, the specific gravity and temperature of the fuel (gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, ethanol and other petroleum products) are significant. Every truckload that we load is temperature-compensated so that the indicated gallon gage is actually the amount pumped. A one-degree rise in temperature is a big deal for businesses, but service stations don't have temperature compensation at their pumps. 2. If a tanker truck is filling the station's tank at the time you want to buy gas, do not fill up; most likely dirt and sludge in the tank is being stirred up when gas is being delivered, and you might be transferring that dirt from the bottom of their tank into your car's tank. 3. Fill up when your gas tank is half-full (or half-empty), because the more gas you have in your tank the less air there is and gasoline evaporates rapidly, especially when it's warm. (Gasoline storage tanks have an internal floating 'roof'membrane to act as a barrier between the gas and the atmosphere, thereby minimizing evaporation.) 4. If you look at the trigger you'll see that it has three delivery settings: slow, medium and high. When you're filling up do not squeeze the trigger of the nozzle to the high setting. You should be pumping at the slow setting, thereby minimizing vapors created while you are pumping. Hoses at the pump are corrugated; the corrugations act as a return path for vapor recovery from gas that already has been metered. If you are pumping at the high setting, the agitated gasoline contains more vapor, which is being sucked back into the underground tank, so you're getting less gas for your money. Hope this will help ease your 'pain at the pump'
  2. that is now one of my favorite pics. ;D
  3. Just some recent experiences from my line of work. I am in the Marine Corps and my MOS is electronic technician. I have been doing this for 9 years now. Can be fun, but also repetitive. I have recently had two Sergeants get out after 5 years. Keep in mind these are 23 yo guys. They put in resumes on Monster jobs and both were hired almost immediatly with multiple offers. One is now in Utah making around 65k a year starting and another went on to a Fed contracting job making dang near 100k a year. The market for these type jobs is wide open but sometimes you have to be willing to relocate . I am just throwing this out there for you as an option. Good luck no matter which path you take.
  4. I have used braid before, 20 pd power pro, which I guess is the same as a 4pd diameter mono line. I have always used about 30 yds of 4 pd mono backing on this with a uni knot. I have recently changed out to a 50 pd braid and seem to be getting rats nests ( wind knots) when casting. Do I need a heavier mono backing, or is there a different knot I shout use? Thanks
  5. It's the wiggle fluke monster ;D All kidding aside, man that fish looks wierd. If you feel up to it show the pics to a wildlife personnel, maybe they can point you in the right direction. wierd I before E execpt after C doesn't apply here, I am an idiot.
  6. Versus is the only sport channel I get other than ESPN, during the spring and summer its got some good fishing shows. Ever since hunting season came in though there are very few fishing and a lot of hunting.
  7. Man, What a beaut, I would take her hunting in some of the game lands here in a sec.
  8. Maybe just my dumb intuition, but I really think it will come down to LSU and OKI. Some of the other teams are good, but just aren't in the conferences to convince me.
  9. Yes, I will most definately stay in touch, that looks like some nice bass fishing. Thanks for the offer.
  10. NCThompson, Yes there are fish in there, the only problem you are going to have now is that we haven't had much rain here in Jacksonville. The saltwater has made its way really far up river. They are catching specks and red drum in the old bass holes. I am planning on putting my boat in next weekend. If you want a ride, I won't ask for gas money or nothing. I can get up to 4 people on my boat so if you have a friend that wants to tag along let me know. If you would rather not go for a boat ride, try looking for creeks farther up river towards richlands. Thats just a little hint until we get some good rain. Jeremy
  11. When using braid on a spinning reel I use a mono backing to help with the slipping. Recently I bought some 30# braid and tried using about 50 yds of 4 # mono backing. I notice that I am getting a lot of wind knots with this. I tied them using a uni to uni knot. Should I increase my mono backing #? Thanks in advance.

Me too, then I hope he gives the grandparents some sort of monetary compensation for this Bia@#h putting them through this. I guess its true that money is the root of all evil.
  13. Hi all, I have had a hard time in the past week and a half buying a bite. The temps here are from 95 (today) down to the upper 70's. The fish just are so hard to predict now. I am currently working two jobs for X-mas and the only good fishing time I have is fromm 1100 to 1pm. I have tried softs, spinners, jerks, cranks, and topwaters. I am not having any luck. Any suggestions to help me outl.
  14. Tough times can get you down, but I think you have to go through them to enjoy the good. I was given a saying from an old man at church one time that has brought me out of the worste and it goes like this. " God brought me to it, so he will bring me through it." Just some food for thought. Try not to get too down things happen for a reason. Just learn from it, become stronger from it and enjoy everything that you have.
  15. I am in SE NC if you ever need anyone to fish with on the weekends I am there. I have a 16ft boat if you want to try some larger lakes or whatnot.
  16. I liked Coach, Home Improvement and Major Dad. While it was short lived I thought Rodney with Rodney Carrington was gonna be good.
  17. The game might not have been the best game, but by gosh it certainly was a nail biter. My wife who has never watched football before, was grabbing my hand on that second fieldgoal attempt. I also thought that it was very funny that all of the announcers that were on the Romo bandwagon, happened to jump off of it very quickly last night. I am not a Dallas fan, but it seems to me that them boys will do whatever it takes to win.
  18. Thanks for the info man, I think I will try and eagle globe and anchor. That would be pretty cool in a Marine Corps town
  19. Man what an over achiever. NICE, did you do that yourself or have a friend do it.
  20. The chargers aren't looking too good right now, but I think ( just my opinion ) it will start to turn around for them in the next two weeks. The rams, well with Bulger hurt now I don't know it could go either way. I think the worst team in the nfl is probably the aints. I was hoping they would have another great year, but the nfl has been really unpredictable this year. Well except for the colts and ( I cringe to say this ) the pats. Oh and yeah I think the panthers are going to suck hind as well.
  21. IMO, No one is talking about the Colts because they are doing what everyone is expecting them to do. WIN. I think if they lose a game then the talk will start. The Pats are getting the medias attention due to the cheating thing a few weeks back.
  22. I would check your states laws on weights per registration. NC has really started cracking down on people towing over the gross weight on their reg. If your registration says persay 4k and your truck weighs 3.5k a boat with a 30hp motor would put you over and you would definately get a ticket from ole smokey.
  23. Frogtog, Congrats on the grand baby. Like it was said before I guess the boat ride is good as soon as momma says so.
  24. May not be the most efficient way, but when I was stationed in Cali, I bought a long gun and had to go to a local gun shop and pay a small fee to have it shipped to a gun shop near my mom and dads. Once I got back to NC I went and picked it up. May work for you or may not, just a suggestion.
  25. Yeah we use dogs to hunt deer. I am in the south. I also still hunt and hunt from stands. Running dogs is a different type of hunt in itself. I have had some good frineds in the military from up north that thought that was just stupid. I took them and they had a good time. Many think it takes the sport out of it, but its not as easy as letting the dogs loose and waiting for a deer to run by. For those who have never participated in this type of hunt I can understand if it does sound stupid to you.
