  1. Thanks, I will stay in touch.
  2. Fishbear, I do see the resemblance there.
  3. Personally, I am pulling for OU, I am ready to hear about something besides USC and Tx. I hope that OU can get a national championship this year
  4. My eldest son and my youngest daughter after a morning of speckled trout and redfishing.
  5. No offense taken, everyone has their own opinion and are welcome to them. I was just giving you mine. I guess some of them could be down right nasty, I was just saying the ones that I have seen have been alright by me.
  6. When we hunt deer, running dogs we use handheld vhf just like marine boaters use. The range is generally better ( you can get output on them up to 10W) which is great when you are hunting dense cover and need to be able to communicate over miles. While they are more expensive ( about 100 per unit) they are much more reliable and can be used for boating as well as hunting. The talkabouts are generally good, be can be very unreliable.
  7. I actually like them. The chargers throw backs are awesome IMHO. I also actually liked the Eagles throw backs from two weeks ago.
  8. Hi all, I just found out that I am going on recruiting duty next year. I have to go to school in San Diego in April. I have never done any west coast fishing, but would love to have a chance. If anyone here lives out that way I would appreciate it if I could maybe tag along for some fishing. I won't have any type of tackle, but would be more than happy to pay whatever for some fishing? I will be there for 6 weeks starting April 29 of next year and the weekends should be free.
  9. Thanks for the info. I know many places to order, but I am going fishing tomorrow night and was wanting to find something local.
  10. After reading this post I went out and bought a sixer this past weekend. $11 WOW, althought I had to buy it from a micro brew carrier in town so they are higher than normal. The beer just wasn't my cup of tea. I am a pilsner kind of guy and this was just a little strong tasting to me. I really enjoyed the summer ale on tap so I thought I would give this a try. Not going to knock it but it wasn't for me.
  11. I need some help, none of the tackle/sporting good shops in my area carry IKA's any longer. The only place I have found that stocks them is DICKs, and the sales rep told me that usually the day they get them in they are gone. Are there any good substitutes by YUM or any other soft plastic company. Thanks
  12. I have learned a lot in the past few months that I have been here and have gotten a lot of advice from many knowledgable people. The thing that sticks out in my mind the most and I will try not to mis quote it is the words of the great LBH. Atleast he is the first I ever heard say it. " The thing with bass fishing is that you can read, read, read until you are blue in the face but until you get out there and try some of the stuff, they are just words." How true is that.
  13. Maybe its just because I have really just started seriouslly concentrating on bass in the past few months, but I have a problem in water any deeper than 10ft. I just don't seem to be able to hook a bass any deeper than that.

  16. Congrats on the PB, that fish looks like a hawg for just over 4.
  17. Congrats, That is a feat that I hope one day I can obtain, not easy by any means and you have set my standard. Thanks for the report and I hope you can make 550-600 by end of the year.
  18. Matt, Is the fishing totally different in Gaston vs. Kerr, if so do you have any advice, I am planning on a week trip up that way and would like to fish both resevoirs.
  19. This is a great topic for me, because I witnessed this first hand this past weekend. The bass were cruising a couple of feet off the bank and wouldn't touch any lure that I threw, I threw stick baits rigged a few different ways, spinner baits, jerk baits, jigs, pretty much everything that was in my tackle box. What really irritated me was the fact that the bass would pretty much make a big loop and work there way back and forth around the pond. While I did catch my pb bass Sunday morning, I was getting really frustrated because I could see some bass that broke 5 pd mark and they wouldn't give any lure the time of day.
  20. I have read many articles saying the expensive oakley, costa's and rayban's offer no more protection if not less than the el cheapo's. The clarity many times is just dependant upon the color lense you have for the current conditions. I have owned many sets of oakleys and costa's and its just a name. I now buy sea strikers or calcutta's for $20, and I can replace them every year without thinking twice about it.
  21. tipp, When they are saying that he isn't thinking when he is throwing, I don't think they mean it in a negative way. I watched the game in detail today ( I am a big San Diego fan) they were trying to imply that he is in such a groove right now that he doesn't have to think much. That the throws are like second nature to him. At this point no one can have anything bad to say about Favre.
  22. Congrats, It can only go up from there. What kinda fly were you using?
  23. That looked like one great day. Those were some nice looking fish and I bet a lot of memories to go along. I am looking forward to when my kids get old enough to go fishing for more than just 20 minutes.
  24. Thanks, I just looked at the pic and it sucks, I tried to resize it in paint and it made it very fuzzy. I will try some flukes, other than that I pretty much tried all of the others this morning. It was as if they had something other than feeding on the mind. The water was real clear and you could see them just swim right by the baits. I was leading them by about 10 feet so it would spook them. As they got a few feet from the baits I would bounce them a second and let them sit , but I go no luck from them.
  25. Went out this morning to base to fish the pond again. Started with my fly rod trying to catch a few bream. It was slow and I only caught one. So I decided to switch do a *** bait rigged wacky style.. First cast I catch a dink about 8 inches long. So I moved down the bank and cast out. As soon as I cast I saw a school of about 5-7 bass shoot out from some grass. I get a tap tap and I set the hook. This bass made a fuss, jumping up out of the water about 5 times. I get him up and I think the hook went through the corner of his mouth about 5 times he was on there good. This was my personal best. It was about 16-17 inches long and I would guess 2.5-3 pounds. The picture didn't do it justice. I keep fishing and catch about 5 more bass, nothing special just a bunch of dinks. I do have a question though. Today I saw a bunch of huge bass cruising the banks. I would guess the biggest one I saw was around 6-7 pounds. I threw everything I had at them and they wouldn't give it the time of day. Any suggestions to that.
