  1. I have spent quite a bit of time with every reel you listed save the MGX. The older reels compare quite favorably with all of the newer releases IMO. As far as Shimano, I tend to agree with RW regarding the 50mg. They are a blast with which to fish, but they just felt a little "weakish" to me. I'd gladly take a Core over any other Shimano reel that I have owned. I lost my Core 50 overboard a few months ago--still makes me sick to think I could be so stupid. On the Daiwa end, I prefer the Sol/Alphas platform to anything they have come out with(even the Steez) since discounting the line. They just suit me perfectly. The Zillions are an entirely different animal. They are solid, smooth, and Heavy. I fished a Type R for about a year and really liked it, but it was just bigger and heavier than I prefer.
  2. Chances are he's gonna fade and fade fast. We've seen it over and over. Liddell, Hughes, CroCop, Fedor, Franklin, etc. Seems when these guys hit the wall, it doesn't take long. I've never been a fan of Silva, but the dude was/is an animal. IMO, his best days are def behind him.
  3. I'm unsure about the Lews, but I'm pretty sure it won't work because of the shaft size. The Zillion def won't work. Unfortunately, you're gonna have to go overseas to make it work. You're gonna need a handle, probably a drag star, covered nut, and a retainer. I prefer to use Plat, but there are a number of vendors that can make it happen. I've used JapanTackle and JapanProFishing in the past and they've both been great. Also, SemperFiTackle is making what looks like some really nice stuff at pretty good prices.
  4. I think that dude scored 4 touchdowns in a single high school game.
  5. That custom rod looks sick! I'm such a fan of that style grip.
  6. Anyone who hasn't jammed this one is missing out.
  7. Just got done blaring "Hey" by the Pixies on the way back from picking up dinner.
  8. I'll hit the bank for some pond hopping if i don't have time for a proper run to the lake. Both have their advantages, but given time I'll take the boat or my float tube.
  9. I love me some Daiwa's, but so far I'm kinda meh on this one. I'll most likely be looking at the new Chronarch before this one. BTW, is anyone else sick of red & black reels?
  10. You guys are killing me with the Conquest talk! Must resist......
  11. MBR844. A lot of guys like longer rods, but for me, it's perfect for heavy duty work.
  12. That is crazy, but I can totally believe it. The NRX line is absolutely electric. Try fishing a chatterbait on one. It'll knock your fillings out.
  13. Sweet reel, Maico! That ones definitely on my bucket list.
  14. Zona's is the only fishing show my wife will watch with me. The dude is pure awesomeness for me, but I could definitely see how he could be annoying for some.
  15. #12 is the funniest thing I've read in a long while!
  16. I might have to try an Ethos crank bait rod. I've handled them in the store plenty, but havent pulled the trigger. They also have the Zillion type R on clearance at $349--expensive, but a pretty good price on a baller reel.
  17. Janes Addiction-Jane Says, particularly the live version Soulfly w/Chino-Pain GNR-You're Crazy Talking Heads-Take me to the River Deftones-7 words Megadeath-A Tout Lamonde I could go on forever with this. Great thread!
  18. Im totally with you on Danzig. I love that song! Pantera's Far Beyond Driven album also gets my blood pumping. Also, Outshined by Soundgarden is at its best when at ear splitting volume.
  19. It's just splitting hairs with these two. They are both excellent reels.
  20. I love seeing all the new gear but my favorite part of ICAST is the clearance sales on the "old stuff".
  21. Merthmobile!!
  22. I'm out on this one. The 8:1 STX was too fast for my liking. I'm sure the flipping junkies will be all over it, though.
  23. 50th anniversary Zillion. I really, really wish I had that one back.
  24. That's awesome! The force is strong with this one!
  25. Very nice arsenal! If you ever want to unload that Lami XMG, let me know.
