  1. I've gone in the opposite direction. I am much more comfortable with a 6'3"-6'9" rod. I only have one 7'+ rod left in my regular rotation. Plus, the shorter rods are more easily managed when I'm in my tube.
  2. Oh buddy! I sold my boat, so I have whittled my setups down to 7. After trading and selling a ton of gear, I didn't come out of pocket a dime and now my arsenal is saweet!
  3. Granted I have only fished one LTB, but I was less than impressed with the rod that I had. It was extremely tip heavy and just felt like dead weight in my hands. The rod was rated MHXF but felt like XHXXXF. Perhaps I just had a dud, but man, it really turned me off to this line.
  4. The XMG 50's definitely fished higher than they were rated. I had a 724 and it was stout--real stout. I would have easily considered it a heavy. Go to the Lamiglas website; they have a forum where a manufacturer rep will be able to help you select the right rod for your intended purpose.
  5. I have owned/used a ton of different brands and models over the years. These are the ones that stand out to me in their respective price ranges. $100-200--Carrot Stick and Lamiglas Certified Pro $200-$350--Looomis GLX(pre split grip) and Dobyns Champion Extreme $350+--NRX--Absolutely electric!
  6. I have a Lamiglas Don Iovino 6'2" ML that was made for doodling suspended fish. It's great for that technique, but it's also my go to rod for baby topwaters and slabs. Paired with a TD Sol, it's plain money!
  7. I don't have the angling specific Oakley's, but I've been wearing the polarized Flak Jacket XLJ's for years. They are fantastic both on and off the water. I haven't ever had a reason to try any other brands, so I don't have anything to compare them to.
  8. I've got a buddy who swears by his Smoke's. He has E7's running out of his ears, but it's always the Smokes that are on his deck. Fwiw, I've used them plenty, and they are fine reels. Can't say they are any better or worse than other reels in their price range.
  9. Deep cranking and the rig are two techniques I just don't wanna use. It's entirely too much work.
  10. I love this freakin' thread!
  11. I like Killians Red for flavor and good ol Keystone Light for getting hammered.
  12. I've been having a blast with mine. My only gripe is that you gotta crank the snot out of the tension cap to tighten the spool up. But even that is a minor thing. Plus, you're right, it's a good lookin sucker.
  13. Congrats Shaw Grigsby, you just won the Classic! Grigsby: "Oh gosh! Holy geez! I caught some big ol' pigs today!!!"
  14. For me it's Clapton by a mile. In about a month, I'm gonna see him again. I can't wait!
  15. My apologies. Now that I read my post, it definitely comes off as rude. Welcome back to the site! It's a great resource with some awesome people!
  16. I can't speak from personal experience but everytime this subject comes up the Veritas is at the top of the list. That many people can't be wrong......
  17. For me, it's quite the opposite. I prefer a swept handle. Do they work any better or more efficiently? I doubt it, but they sure do look cool!
  18. It's my understanding that the wildcard is available for the rep sample rods. If that is indeed true, I'd be all over it. But be warned, it won't be the last NRX you ever purchase.
  19. He has put a whoopin on me this winter thanks to the BTD sales. 2 NRX's and a Core 50 and I think I might be done with rods and reels for a little while. Have also been pimping out some reels; that gets expensive really quickly. I haven't even started restocking on tackle yet. Yet.......
  20. It's kinda like when Tiger was on top. I'll take KVD vs the field in any tourney.
  21. It does seem a bit odd, but they definitely do. Fwiw, I use reel grips on most if my reels.
  22. I had a 2k Ranger 4x4 that was a stud. I beat the crap out of it for about 100k. Sold it to my fil about 5 yrs ago. He's been using it daily on the farm, and it's still kicking. Congrats on the new ride!
  23. Throw all hardbaits in the plano's, taking care to ensure that ALL the trebles get tangled. If I can get my deep cranks mixed with my spooks, that's just a bonus.
