Going to spool my spinning rig with Power Pro braid, wonder what pound test I should go with? I will be bass fishing on a stained lake.....top water, spinnerbaits, jig, Texas rigs. I've read several places about not going less than 30 lb because the line will bury on the spool during hook set and fighting. Thought?

I use 15 and 20# Power Pro on my spinning reels with no issues.

I usually stick with 30#...unless I find a killer deal on 20# I've never noticed a difference in performance between the two.

Never used the Stealth Braid so I can't offer an opinion on it, but I have no complaints about PP's performance.

As long as I can get it in Hi-viz, I'll use just about any braid I can get my hands on.

Never used that other braid, Power Pro, Power Pro 8 Slick, and Suffix 832 have all been working well for me. I've used 30# as well. I find it's a little too big for lighter baits, but for the stuff you mentioned, it will work fine and you'll have some TOUGH line for sure.

I recently tried the new PP super slick and it's a good line but I like the Suffix 832 better. I think it's quieter and lays better on the spool. and has a Hi-vis color option.

Btw, I use 20# on spinning.

Best braid that I have found for spinning reels is 20# Suffix 832 Ghost.

Packard: Do you fish in stained water? Concerned that the ghost line would glow in dark water.

I use 30# braid on my spinning reel for my son and I use 20# for myself and I honestly can't tell much of a difference.

I use both PowerPro and Spiderwire Stealth and like them equally well. 20# on MH spinning gear for soft plastics, 50# on H baitcaster, and 80# for muskie fishing.

Same for me. 20 pound has never given me a reason to change. Add a leader where applicable and your good to go.

I have used both, I like Power Pro better. Holds it's color longer, cast's better and seems to not dig in as much in the lower lb tests.

I've got two spinning rigs filled with 30# PP Hi-Vis Yellow, that I've been fishing for 3 seasons now. Never had an issue. I lead it with a 6' section of 17# fluoro (Alberto knot). Great line! I've been wanting to try the new 832, but I keep asking myself "why"!

If you are fishing in stained water is a mono/flouro leader needed? Guessing the leader is to make it less visible to the fish?

Great thing about fishing is ...........you make the rules. I fish leaders with swivels, whether it's braid or mono. The overwhelming majority of my fishing is done with 10-15 or 20# braid on spinning gear. I select the line based on the size rod and reel combo, along with how thick the cover is and target species. Most 20# braided lines will break between 30-40#, the issue becomes which one you like best for management, I don't think strength is the major concern, I've yet to have a 40 pound fish break 20# braid. I use PP and Fins, I buy the one on sale.

I use 15lb on my spinning gear and 50lb on my baitcasting gear. If your bail is set correctly I don't think you will have a problem with it digging in. I think that mostly comes on baitcasters when you have the bail tightened way down and you are trying to horse a fish out of slop or cover and you are putting a lot of pressure on it as it is being reeled in. I always like to use a leader b/c I do think that it makes a difference. Maybe not as much in stained water, but it is a confidence thing with me too.

I have had rigs spooled with both for several years now. 30lb stealth on a BC, 15lb powerpro on a spinner. They both have been great. Stealth has a wax like coating that's smoother going through the guides. It has retained it's color for 3 years. The PP has faded more with less use, but is still a great line. They both cast well due to small diameters.

I think for the price stealth is an awesome value. Its gotten a bit of a bad rap from peoples initial experience with the OG spiderwire.

Use line and lure on whatever braid you go with. It'll keep its coating longer.
