What lure or style are you going to teach yourself or improve your skills with this year?

This year I'm going to teach myself how to shaky head this year. Last year it was the Senko which added more fish to my livewell. In 2010 I tried but failed to teach myself to jig fish. After a few trips to the lake and drawing a blank with the jig it became painful. The Senko eased the pain.

What are some good shaky head lures?

Why did the jig fail? thats an all year round tool.

I'm learning the jig, and deep 20+ cranks.

I am going to keep trying the A-rig. I've had some success and seen first hand success by others, but I'm not completely confident in it just yet.

You've got me. I don't know if I was fishing to fast, wrong technique/place, or what. Bites just didn't seem to happen for me. After a few trips I think maybe I would get frustrated to fast and switch to some other technique such as crankbaits, c-rig, fluke, spinner, t-rig, etc. I tried it this past weekend at Stonewall, no luck. Switched to Senko and bam, started catching fish.

Not sure what size head you were using, but maybe they wanted a lighter jig. I'm thinking they may have liked the slow fall of the senko as opposed to the drop of the shakeyhead. In all types of jig fishing, rate of fall is big consideration.

It's the "Year of the Jig."

Don't know why, but I have never really used them before (probably the fault of those doggone Senkos).

Two weeks ago I dragged a 1/2 ounce Watermelon-Red Boo Jig with a Zoom Super Chunk watermelon trailer through the grass from the shore for about an hour just before dusk. I got 3 bites but could not hook the fish. Then the last 20 minutes before dark I landed 3 largemouth with the largest one being 4 #, which is pretty good for my lake.

Gonna be lots of jiggin' this weekend.

I guess there's not much to learn, but I haven't have much luck or patience with Senkos and would like to try and change that this year.

I did the exact same thing! dobyns glass rod and a box full of little johns! sounds like this could get expensive

Ive got Senkos down,Ive had some success with Spinnerbaits,Ive caught plenty on a Trigged Baby Brush Hog,I think I have mastered the Dropshot (Its my go to when I just wanna catch "something",even dinks) Ive been on the lake 3 times this year and thrown Crankbaits(Rapala DT6 and DT10) and have caught "some" fish. Last year I killed em on a Rapala X Rap...

So lately for some reason I have been stocking up on Spoons. Ive seen videos where people are haulin in real nice fish from the depths with them,and I cant remember the last time I hooked into even a 3# fish. So I have my arsenal of spoons ready(Jigging,Fluttering,casting ect),but im betting the farm that if they dont produce,ill hit the ol Dropshot again.

Note to self: Your doubting yourself,put the "Dropshot" thought out of your mind...Spoons WILL produce!

I have 2 that I really want to learn to fish this year. One being a jig.. always have one tied on but have never caught anything on one. The other one being a deep diving crankbait. I am generally a bank beater, but want to learn how to find and fish deeper water this year.

call me crazy, but Im going to make the jump to even larger swimbaits. If 8" is good, 10" is great... right

Bull shad is a good bait, check out some of the videos on youtube and their sight. I'd love to own one but just don't have that kind of coin to drop on a bait.

I really need to get better at deep cranking. It's just so much easier for me to pick up a jig and pick cover apart instead of covering water like you have to do sometimes. Want to get better at swimbaiting too. I'd probably be better at both if I had a little more specialized gear for them but that's going to have to wait for now.

yeah I've seen all the videos on it plus the action video, it swims really well, I'd like to see if anyone on here has it and gets a lot of fish with it, I have no problem spending 50 bucks on a lure if it brings a nice fish every cast or 2 like in the youtube videos
