I get %75 of my fish either in the morning or evening, but in between i just cant get the hang of.

What you guys fish when it is hot/sunny in the middle of the day? And where?

DD22, Bomber fat free shad, or BIG c rig lizard. If that don't work, it's time to go home and come back in the evening.

I go in and take a nap.  

I fish the same thing I would any other time, just a lil deeper.

At that time I usually try to go to a reaction bait. If nothing I will make a couple casts with a worm. If I still don't get anything, I head home.

in deeper water, usually (always) with a jig or soft plastic.

The middle of a hot sunny day can be fantastic on the natural milfoil infested lake I fish. It predictably positions the fish in a few key areas, like deep weed lines, isolated patched of deep weeds, or in the darkest shade you can find in shallow water, like under boat docks.

I agree.  I think many people miss out because they want to follow the "rules".  

I do ok with Shakey heads and Trick Worms worked slooooow!!!!

All of my fish over 8lbs have ALL come in the middle of the day. As R.W. said, either side of noon. But mostly from 1-4.

I fish the same exact baits, in the same general area. If I want numbers, I may slow down, and fish a little deeper.

There's always fish to be caught, just stick with it.

caught me a nice 3 lb'r today at Noon..get em on a bluegill pattern chatterbait, on the weedline..

BTW, this was at a city park lake..

There are a couple of trains of thought when it comes to the midday slow down.

You can slow down, fish deeper, or go searching...or do all at once  

Personally I like to fish fast. So if I haven't already developed a plan for the afternoon, I will take what I've learned from the morning. When the fish are active you can find the pattern pretty easily. When they slow down it doesn't mean the pattern has to change. I believe that atleast a couple of fish will be active all day. It may be different fish but there are still a few.

   My goal is to continue to cover as much water as possible, effectively and find those few active fish. You may end of having to adjust your whole pattern but atleast you have a starting point.

RW's plan is a pretty good one too. He might know a thing or two about fishing

I would think this is at least partially due to the fact that we would focus more on what we are doing because we know going in that the bite will be tough...do you think that is the case, or would you guess it is something else???

Some suggest it's a result of light penetration.  

More baitfish activity results in predators growing

accustom to hunting at this time of day.

I've always had this thought that the light gets the photoplankon or whatever you call it goign and growing. Since the shad and minnows feed of this, they become active thus giving the big bass a chance to wait until the bait gets to them...or maybe the big un needs so much food that he has to take a lunch break from lying around all day.

I'd like to get some insight on exactly how it breaks down. It would probably give everyone some extra confidence goign into this part of the day.

I really hope that someday my PB will be as nice as the smallest fish on that site...still hunting a 10 pounder...maybe someday!

Many years ago the guy that taught me bass fishing said 10 am- 2pm is the time the big ones go  for lunch - he usually threw a big topwater and I still do, of course I strike out sometimes but not always.

In the middle of the day, I tie on a wave worm wieghtless style. I try to find any shade possible. Downed trees, stumps, docks, ect. Let it sink slowly and watch your line for movement. I probly catch as many fish between 11 and 3 as I do in the morning and evening.

The ol' boy who works on my boat was catchin' 7-10 lbers in July on a buzzbait off the points in the middle of the day. Rules are more like guidelines.

my opinion. get a cooler with some nice cold lunch and maybe a few cold ones. strap on a 10inch power worm texas rigged and fish slow on the deep ledges. if you can find old broken docks or stumps on these ledges, even better. just make sure you put the beer down before you set the hook!
