Janderson45
I fish in eastern massachusetts as well, from Easton MA, next to Brockton. I typically fish smaller ponds from the shore around my town, but also fish winnecunnet in Norton, along with some other bigger bodies of water in Norton, Taunton, and Bridgewater.... of course i fish elsewhere as well, but those are the most common places for me. Haven't had a whole lot of success lately, other than one night where I had a ton of success with the TW frog (caught 6 LMB in under an hour). In the past, I've had pretty decent luck just texas rigging soft plastics and jigging them along the bottom.. so far this year however, this technique hasn't produced at all for me. I don't have a boat, but I am currently saving up for a kayak... figure I'll probably enjoy fishing even more and have far better results out of a kayak. Super User Jigfishn10 Posted June 16, 2012 Author Super User Share Posted June 16, 2012 Hit Houghtons for a few hours in the afternoon. Shim E Sticks was the ticket with one coming off of an inline spinner believe it or not. Nothing on tubes, jigs or spinnerbaits. The water was too choppy for a topwater bite. The bite is still not aggressive and you really had to be patient before you set the hook. I watched a fish swim with my soft stick for 100 ft by the tail and I never had the chance to set the hook as he never had the hook in his mouth. The spinner bite was a light thump and kill the retrieve which turned out like a soft plastic bite where you just saw your line move. I'm heading to Buckmaster's on Monday to see if I can scare something up there.
mikebone
The lady at Cochituate said its gonna start costing 5 bucks to park there starting monday seems like all boat ramps have a fee now
The one that got away
Hit a local spot at about 5pm Friday. Weather was breezy and the water temps had gone up about 5 degrees (68ish to 73ish) from Sunday. Weather was breezy and the bite was pretty slow, only got one bass and a couple of decent pickerel until 8:30pm, when this guy nailed my black Cavitron buzzbait: 21" and my scale only said 4.2lbs, I was hoping it was more
grampa1114
Nice fish...caught one about that size 3 weeks ago that weighed 2.7. Let's catch them again in the fall and see how big they get.
tritz18
Hit another local spot last weekend and caught another six pounder! Not alot of fish but two sixs so far. Both have been caught in around 10 feet of water on a drop shot fluke. Bass have gone deeper with this hot weather now being very consistent. trupp30
Has anyone been fishing S. Watuppa? I am looking to make a trip their soon and was wondering if anyone has been catching much their. If so, what has been working? Thanks for the help.
Janderson45
caught a pretty good one of the bank here in Easton mass, I got length and width measurements but didn't have a scale on me.. anyone care to guess by looking at it? I've got a ballpark I know it's in just not an exact weight. That's a size 13 shoe for reference.. fish was caught in relatively shallow water, on a warmer overcast night... caught on a topwater frog, was lurking in an area very heavily vegetated by lily pads. If you have the length and girth measurements, input the numbers into the fish weight calculator under the "Tools" tab on the top of this website and it will give you an estimated weight
Janderson45
yeah, didn't realize we had it here on bass resource, but i had already used a calculator.. the fish was 24.5" long and roughly 12.5" in girth... that puts this guy at around 7lbz 4oz and my new PB

grampa1114
Merrimack River, Lawrence boat ramp, turn left at DD off Rte 28 from 495N. Big ramp and nice size parking lot. Got there at 7am on Thursday and there wasn't another boat trailer in the parking lot. River was barely moving and there was a nice sandy beaching spot next to the ramp. My friend and I fished all 8 or so miles of beautiful river with good structure and cover along both sides. We caught many Large and Smallmouth Bass, although mostly Smallmouth. The largest Smallmouth ran well over 3lb. We discovered the presence of Northerrn Pike as well. In earlier posts, I mentioned catching Walleye here also. The boats that we saw on the river for the day were 1 scull, 3 crews, a small excursion boat, and 3-4 kayaks, not bad for 6 hours. This river is a "Must" for any avid Smallmouth angler or for that matter, anyone who wants to take a truly enjoyable boat ride. My only cautions are, don't drive the boat too close to shore and when the water becomes 6' deep or less(way up at the other end) it could get rocky on the bottom. Don't miss this great fishery. Shakey the head
Hey Shaky the head, welcome to Bass Resource. I couldn't help but noticing that you have Waltham, MA as your location. I'm an '84 graduate from Waltham. Thanks for the Welcome !!!!!! I just moved out here back in December .... originally from Milford . Been checking out some of the places North of here in search of smallies ... tried Long sought for in Westford last week ..... nothing but small Large mouths ... if there are smallies in there .... I didn't catch any ... basically looking for options other than Webster Lake and the long haul drive to Quabbin ( even though it's always worth it ) going to try Singletary tomorrow night I think ... Super User Jigfishn10 Posted July 17, 2012 Author Super User Share Posted July 17, 2012 Well it's been a while since I've been out fishing. Went thru a stretch where I worked grave yard shift - 9:00pm - 9:00 am - and now my project is winding down a bit for this phase anyway. Next phase should be cut and dry and I'm hoping to hit Buckmasters on Friday, which leads me to my question: Where are you guys finding the fish?
grampa1114
Jiggy, it seems that the consensus that I come up with, both personal experience and careful lisrtening, is that the better fish have gone deep. I'm finding them from 8-12 ft but others are going even deeper and doing very well. Now that is daytime and I've heard that the frog bite is on at dusk, but that's only hearsay. trupp30
Jigg, I fished a tournament on S. Watuppa on Sunday and found many fish near the shore and around docks, rocks and other shoreline cover. Actually, most boats in the 20 boat field were employing the same tactic. However, the week before I fished Stafford Pond in Tiverton, RI and found bass holding in 20-25 ft. As things go in bass fishin, alot depends on the lake, weather and other factors of the day we decide to fish. I will agree with the frog bite from grampa. I have been using a frog at any time of day with alot of succes this year. This weekend I am heading to Whitehall. Has anyone been fishing their lately? Super User Jigfishn10 Posted July 18, 2012 Author Super User Share Posted July 18, 2012 Thanks guys, much appreciative. I'll be trying to hit the water after work tomorrow night for a few hours. Hopefully I'll be able to scare something up.
