Yes you should, and thank you. The more the merrier.

I had an hour to kill this morning so I drove to Blue Hills Res to wet a line.

There are NO SWIMMING and NO TRESPASSING signs around it now.

Finally got my goal bass, I’ve been hunting this fish for years. Countless hours and heart breaks.  I started out waking up at 430 am, feeling like crap, mixture of expired cheese and a couple of be

I should post in this forum in 2025. It's the closest thing to a Maine forum. It's good to see some fellow paddlers.

I’ll be in Maine by April, hoping to find some fresh water around me . Been fishing a ton of salt, but really looking to get on fresh water bass again. It’s been quite a while, that’s for sure!

We’ll start a Mainer report :)

Let's do just that! Where in Maine?

Southern Maine, Kennebunk area. I have a house there and fortunately I can work from home. Staying up there is not a problem.

Where you from?

Only bad if you don't ice fish 😉

I checked off December with a 1# perch and 3.63# Larry at one of my favorite Plymouth waters.  That makes three years and 10 months consecutively catching fish in MA open water.

The bass came from under the same tree I caught a 4_8 LMB a couple weeks ago.  Today's bass took a 1/4 oz green/chartreuse @Siebert Outdoors finesse jig with a green/purple flake Yamamoto Flappin' Hog trailer cut down to make a smaller snack.  Larry fought pretty good for 42.x* water.

I found a couple bait balls in 20', but it looked like everyone was stuck to the bottom, even the pickerel that I can normally catch while trolling a crankbait.

It was mostly sunny and winds were light from the NW.  Air pressure was 30.2.

I might get out tomorrow and target SMB.

Got to Plymouth for a couple hours this afternoon. Took a goose egg.  Didn’t mark much of anything. I worked a few laydowns in chance of repeating yesterday’s success and some lingering salad in 8-10’.  I threw the normal cold water baits and kept it pretty slow.

Water temps were 41.x.

I drove through Braintree, Holbrook, and Hanover doing errands today. All the ponds I drove by were locked up.

That warm rain Wednesday will reset the entire eastern portion of the state. Some of the hills out west might survive.

I haven't driven by anywhere since Wednesday, wonder if a lot opened up?

Ha ... one of my LV500's is at the bottom of the lake.

Think I have 10 LV’s and have never caught a fish on one.  Red Eye Shad is my go to lipless.

I threw my waders and one ML spinning rod in my car and drove down to my favorite little kettle in Plymouth.  I was lucky enough to find them in short order.  I found 5 SMB between 1.5 & 1.75 pounds, with pretty good bellies.  There were also beaucoup frye in salad tight to shore.

I started with a green Ned, switched to a Rapala jerkbait, then to a 4" Goby colored Senko.  The Senko, sitting still, is what they wanted.  The bite lasted no more than 20 minutes, then shut off.

Today's fish still had a little fight in them, with a couple of them 'just getting out of the water.

I'm planning on getting out again tomorrow.  Where?  That'll be a game time decision.

I’m jealous AF. Dying to get out there! Hate when it’s 60 on a work day in winter!

You'll have plenty of time to fish when you're in your late 50's and retired....  keep at it.

I drove over 'the bridge' to Sandwich yesterday.  I found some healthy salad and caught one SMB with a 3" Easy Shiner on a drop shot and a yellow perch on a 2.85" dirty perch Beast Coast SloFlow.  Both were a little over a pound.  I hooked onto something good in the same area, but it got off.  I didn't mark much and nobody wanted a treble hook bait.

I also saw an otter doing otter things around the south bank.  It came within 20 - 30' of my truck while I packed up to go home.

Water temps were 43.x, air pressure was 30.2, and the weather was warm and bluebird, especially for the week before Christmas.

Overall it was a decent year.  I came close, but didn't get anything over five pounds.  My big LMB was 4_8 and big SMB was 3_10.  I might have to coat-tail @Mr. Aquarium next year.  He's pretty good at finding bigger fish.

Good job getting out there I was so jealous.  My bass season was absolutely horrible. Couldn’t figure them out night or day. Stripers were horrible too!

Daylight savings sucks, only had 30 or so min of sun after work.   Nothing going on during the day, stayed after  dark. Got one decent fish slow crawling a DS ninja!  Also missed one. Tried the gillionare and PG.
Can’t beat topwater bass in December in MA!  Fishing a shallow water pond that’s been good in the winter!

You guys are killing it. I am going to try some small ponds down the Cape tomorrow I will let you all know if there is any ice. Whacked them pretty good last Sunday on bladed jigs, the water was still 40-42 degrees, I fear I may be driving around all day looking for open water lol

Love that! Can’t beat a chatterbait bite in the winter!  Hope it’s still open. Im

dying to get back out

Well the first pond had ice. so ended up at two deeper larger ponds. I got 3 bass 2 rainbow trout and a bunch of yellow perch on blade baits. My friend got 1 bass and some perch. The water was still 41 at the bigger deeper ponds.
