Come to think about it Tom, I've never brought banannas when we fish.  I'll remember to leave them at home....

Did the lakers make it home to the frying pan?

Finally got my goal bass, I’ve been hunting this fish for years. Countless hours and heart breaks.  I started out waking up at 430 am, feeling like crap, mixture of expired cheese and a couple of be

No, but it left this momento.  There are five lined up teeth marks.  The bottom two do not show up well in the image.

Took a friend's son, Evan, to Hinkley's today.  I'd say the surface temps were higher than the amient temp, 57.x versus high 40's low 50's at best.  Regardless, Evan and his mom drove down, we're fishing!

I had a Swamp Hawg like day today.  Caught my first LMB on a bluegill jig and three SMB on Fishing Rhino's secret weapon.  Everyone was north of three pounds.  The biggest SMB might have been a PB.  My digital scale crapped out on me.

Poor Evan threw everything he brought with him, as well as Fishing Rhino's secret weapon, but came up empty.

The amusing part was the number of clams we caught.  We each caught three or four, whether they closed on a trebel hook, line, or snap swivel, it was a trip.  I don't remember ever catching a clam before.

thats awesome dude! congrats on the PB smallie!

It's so secret that even I don't know what it is.

I can't say for sure it was a PB because my scale crapped out ☹️, it was close for sure.

It was a good one, no matter what!

My SMB PB is 4-7. I caught it with Fishing Rhino in Plymouth last Summer.

Yesterday's big SMB measured roughy from my ankle to just below my knee.

Yup! That's a cape Cod smallie! There are actually much bigger ones in the pond right next to where you were fishing.

Looks like I'm going to burn a LOT of gas to and from the Cape for the next couple weeks.

Keep me updated Dogbone! I'll be on the cape Friday 05/05/17 by the afternoon. God willing. They'll probably be locked on beds by then. Again, some lakes and ponds will be a week or so later than whatvyour seeing right now. It's supposed to rain tonight and drop to the low 40's. Then be overcast and cool for the next several days. So, that might keep them in this pattern for a bit.

good luck man! im headed to that spot i caught the 6lbs monday this afternoon! hopefull she ate a few herring since then

Headed to Quabbin for Salmon on May 13. Any suggestions or info on the run or the lake?

head to gate 8 It's the cold water side.  fishing for salmon at the other areas is a waste of time,  even at gate 8 its tough.  very

early in the season like now is your best opportunity. by the 13th the water is warming and any salmon of which there are few will be deeper and harder to catch.   go catch the brown salmon AKA small mouth bass they fight just as well and are easier to catch.  gd luck

I didn't fish the Cape today.  Reality called and back to the city.  I got a chance to hit Ponkie late in the afternoon.  It was on the cold side and windy.  Water temps were higher than the air at 57.x to 60.x on the South West side, towards the golf course.

I landed 5 pickerel and one LMB, all on jerk baits.  I hooked onto something good with a Yamamoto Hear Tail, but lost it on a bad hook set.

I'm definitely heading back to the Cape when time allows.  Catching big SMB is great.

Actually, salmon have made a very nice comeback at the quabbin according to numerous trusted sources...  perhaps not as good of a salmon fishery as it once was, but better in the past few years than the recent years before.  You are correct in stating that this is a good time of year to catch them, but you can catch them fairly easily into June if you know the right locations to find them and are presenting your lure(s) at the proper depth.   Smelt spawn should be in full effect now, and the salmon like to ride way up high in the water column.. you'll find them suspended 5-10' under the surface sitting just off the first breakline leading to deeper water.  Gate 8 undoubtedly has the most cold water trout/salmon habitat, however I don't think it's a waste of time to target them from other gates... You just need to know where to fish for them and be willing to travel quite a bit from the boat launches (gate 43 or 31) ..  The record lake trout last year (26lbs) was taken from Gate 43 on June 1st, suspended about 15' under the surface over some much deeper water.

I was thinking of heading down the cape tomorrow, location TBD but I was looking at Long Pond Harwich, Long Pond Yarmouth, and Mashpee/Wakeby.  If you're thinking of heading down there and fishing Saturday let me know, perhaps we can meet up on  the water.

Janderson,45,

I would hit Long Pond Harwich if I were you! That's just me. But, if the smallmouth are actively feeding. The largemouth will too. Best time of year to catch a giant smallie in there is now! Mashpee gets hit with a lot of tournaments. And a few clubs have probably started hitting it by now I bet. Good luck where ever you go!

I'd love to hit the Cape Saturday, but the wife might have something to say ...

Funny you say that, I joined a club for the first time this year... they fished Long Pond Harwich last weekend (wasn't a mandatory event and I go to the quabbin every year for opening weekend so I missed it), and we fish a tournament on Mashpee/Wakeby in a few weeks..   Looked like the bite was tough at Long Pond Harwich last weekend (as to be expected I guess) but the ones that were caught were good ones.. numerous 4.5+lb smallmouth caught, with the lunker on the day at 5.36lbs.  First place went to a ~19lb bag that was all smallmouth :P .  I've got a few ideas for fishing it floating around in my head, but if you have any advice for fishing LP Harwich I'd love to chat with you about it in a bit more detail, you can PM me if you'd like..

Ha ha -  I've only got the Girlfriend to circumnavigate, but even that can be complicated at times..  Let me know if you get the ok and decide you want to head down... I'm shooting for mid/late morning.  Not sure if you still have my cell number but you can text/call me too if you'd prefer.

You've never asked forgiveness from a Filipina, have you? ?

I'm divorced! And I keep buying more fishing gear to get over the loss! Or something like that. Just bought 2 new G Loomis Glx casting rods. I told my live in girlfriend that my Mistress(FISHING) will always come first!

Went to Quinsig this morning. I was worried the cold rain and air might really mess up the fishing. Well the fish didn't care one bit, I got 5 bass between 1-2 #lbs and probably 10 other bites I missed (I'd guess really small males or small pickerel just nipping at it). I on the other hand decided to call it quits before noon because I could no longer properly use my hands. The rain was cold and my hands started to become so slow and weak that I could barely press down the thumb bar on my reel....yea, I know, sounds pathetic I bet and I was even laughing at myself while out there. I was actually worried about hooking into a better fish because of how loose my grip was getting, I didn't want to lose a rod. It's weird because even ice fishing they'll rarely get that bad. Water temps were a pretty constant 51-52. The males seemed to be backed off a little bit but they were definitely ready to move up and hungry. Didn't find any super shallow right up against the bank like I might expect when the spawn really gets going. I didn't see any beds either and not any sign of the larger females. I caught the little males mostly on swim jigs, with 1 coming off a 4" senko wacky rigged and another on a t-rigged missile d-bomb.

Great smallmouth bite at Wachusett Res. Water is still very high but I think it's working in my favor. I've gotten a few rainbow trout mixed in so you never know what's on the other end. A small laker even followed my square bill to the bank.
