Swimbaits

Featured Replies

I want to start using them more often. I am looking at soft plastic style swimbaits that can be rigged weedless with weighted hooks to have another option for fishing vegetation. What brands/ styles are you guys using with success?

Havoc Grass Pig has become my favorite. Great action, durable, cheap, and the fish kill them! On a jighead or weedless swimbait hook, great either way.

Keitech Swing Impact Fat, Shadalicious, Hollow Belly and GYCB Swimming Senko.

im a shadalicious fan, but i also the grass pig, and mattlures gill

mattlures (all matt's stuff is great), castaic catch 22's, spro bbz1 series. one bait that has caught a ton of GIANT fish is a huddleston deluxe. i tried them a few years ago without much success, but i'm gonna give them another shot based on what i've seen on this board.

as for paddletails, i always liked reaction innovation's skinny dippers.

I'm addicted to throwing weedless hudds.

They are a killer bait, if you can manage to get one that swims straight

In a six inch bait aTrashfish with an 8/0 beast is hard to beat.

I haven't had any problems with them not swimming straight yet The shad and minnow have been great to me this year. They are cheap and easy.

The hollow belly types I really like the Luck -E - Strike Bass Magic in baby bass color in 3.5" and 4.5". In the pre rigged catagory I like the Storm swim shad, 4" in pearl and shad color. For the solid plastic I like the Lunker City Swimfish in alewive 3.75" and finally for the hard swimbaits I have done really well with the Storm Kickin Stick 5", it is like a Sebile magic swimmer only is has a slightly tighter action and reacts well on the jerk and pause retrieve.

The hard swimbaits I am good on... I am stuck on koppers blue back herring. But for weedless, I just ordered 6 huddleston grass minnows from tackle warehouse. Hope they perform!

Grass minnows catch tons for me but I get bigger bites on the shad.

You're not going to be disappointed, my friend : )

I use reaction innovations skinny dippers the most on a 5/0 owner weighted light wire screw lock hook. Another great bait for me has been the gambler flapping shad in 5inch with a 5/0 weighted mustad power lock plus weighted hook. i prefer using weighted hooks so that the bait can run better. I also like the action of roboworm EZ shads with owner beast hook, unfortunately i have yet to hook up with ine yet.

Keitech Fat Impacts are great on a ewg with a bullet weight, or on a NorthStar Flip and Swim jig.

I've had all my swimbait luck with LFT Magic Shad and Skinny Dippers.

I throw the 6" Hudd a lot. I did buy the Weedless shad but haven't fished it much.....What are you doing to get bit with it? Straight retrieve? Throwing in brush or laydowns? around docks?

I try to scrape it along the bottom. If I grab weed I give a little rip on it. If its rocks or stick and it starts to load my tip I give a quick turn or 2 and it pops up off the bottom. Lately spawning flats and casting parallel along banks have been killer. With out question hudds have easily been my most productive lure this year. One thing I have really paid attention to is they rarely scare fish. You go by with a different bait and they don't like it they take off and there gone. With hudds they will stay around and you can keep running it by till they finally like it.

Thanks for the info, I'll definitely throw this bait more. I agree, the Hudds have such a subtle action and look very natural in the water. I love the Hudd!
