Spinnerbait Love

Recommended Posts

Last year after about a 20 year layoff from fishing I started back and realized just how much I missed it. For the first time this year ever I've been fishing with spinnerbaits. In the weeds no problem, in the lillies no problem, rolling on the bottom around rocks no problem. I believe I've found a bait I can love forever. PB today 5+lbs I'm happy!

That's why they are my favorite baits. Very versatile.

I dont use them that much, but they do produce fish. Cant wait to get my Chronarch 50E to put 30# braid on it to use as a spinner bait rig.

I like fishing spinnerbaits, not as effective as they used to be it seems but still a great option at times.

Swim Jig has taking over for the most part but I still throw a spinnerbait if its windy or if the water is pretty stained.

works well for smallies to

I restrict their use to certain weather conditions (as opposed to the cover I'm fishing as you can throw them everywhere)

when the clouds come and there is a chop on the water...its time to spinnerbait!

Early this year I got really into spinners and was having a great time throwing them in super tight spots and nasty cover but.... Swimbaits have consumed me and that's all I really want to fish any more. Now I would rather throw a swim jig or a weedless swimbait in the same spots. I did have a few days pre-spawn that I really cleaned up like 30+ fish days on spinners.

I have a setup for spinnerbaits only. I will never hit the lake without a spinnerbait tied on. They are my biggest producer by far. Glad you have renewed your love for fishing and I hope many more fat girls come along.

I will have to do some research and start fishing swim jigs. Being I'm fishing from a canoe sometimes it is hard to fish a slow moving bait as the wind blows you around like crazy at times. I'm keeping an eye out on CL or a jon boat to mod.

I must say fishing spinnerbaits doesnt consume much of my fishing time anymore but if there is a hot spinnerbaot bite its hard to put it down. Always have the spinnerbait rig as a reminder because it can be darn fun throwing in tight quarters.

Spinner baits are great for the days when the fish just are not biting swim jigs. 2 of my favorite baits to use.

I definitely love spinnerbaits and love my technique specific set up, Elite Tech Target Spinnerbait rod and a Curado 200E7...I can put that spinnerbait pretty much anywhere I want with it. However, my question is about color and size. I love the basic white war eagle with silver/gold double willow blade in 3/8oz......I fish mainly clear water. Should I downsize or is this pretty much a standard size bait. I do have a finesse war eagle or two that I've done well on in 5/16oz....For some reason I can't find that bait in basic white...thought that would be a killer

Also, so the swim jig is just as effective? Do you fish it the same, straight retrieve with jerks here and there, slow roll, etc? I may try these as well....

why are they preferred to spinnerbaits?

That WAS my thought process. The other day we had 35MPH winds with sun shine and active fish; doesn't get much better copnditions for a spinnerbait.....one fish in the boat. I just have more confidence in swim jigs no matter what the conditions are.

I do want to note that I have had some great success with a heavier NorthStar Custom Baits spinnerbait in deeper water in the summer time, so we will see if that bite picks up this year.
