Is the Curado G series worth the money or not?

Thinking about getting one. Please don't make other suggestions, as this is the only one I am interested in at this time.

Will you get a good workhorse reel? Yes. Lots of nitpicking about metal vs composite drag stars, 9000000000 bearings vs. 4 (which doesn't really matter for 99% of us). Are there very competitive reels from other manufacturers in that price range? Yes.

Too soon to tell. I've had them apart, they're well made. Haven't seen any "well used" copies, though.

Don't know about the G-series, but as a general point, I have owned dozens of Shimano reels over 45+ years and have never regreted any of them. From 30+year old "Bantam"s to a TE-DC & Stella and everything in between including old curados, calais(s), calcuttas and chronarchs. They have ALL exceeded my expectations both in performance and durability. I am a Hardcore fan of their reels.

I've been using one since this spring. It's a fine reel. It's actually gotten smoother with use. Casting wise it'll hang with my lews tournament pro and okuma Serrano. As for the plastic drag star, I'm not sure how you'd break one anyway.

Whether something is worth the cost or not is really personal preference. If the question is if the Curado G quality and features are on par with similarly priced new reels, I'd say yes.

Thanks guys, for all the quick replies. Way more positive than negative, so I bought the reel. I know I can always get educated answers here, not just opinions. I walked around BPS this morning checking back frequently for replies. After all the feedback, I made my purchase. Going to try it out tomorrow. Retirement is GREAT!!!

I'm a little late to the dance, but my answer would have been yes. My local tackle shop has a brand new curado 200E and a Citica 200E sitting on the shelf for $129 and $159 but they are both right hand or they would both in my possession.

If i had the cash, every reel I own would be a Shimano. I have 2 Curados E series, and I must say, they are the best reels I own. I have a couple Revos, Diawas, and a lews speed spool. None compare in smoothness and casting distance.

Ive only owned 4 and not one met my expectation or hype given to them. Nothing wrong with my 50E just not any better tossing lighter lures than my other casters I get same distances pretty much. With the hype given to it I though I would get noticeably further that just isnt so.

As far as shimano reels go for me casting distance lies in how well you can thumb the reel while keeping the engaged centrifugal brakes low. I get good distance with 2 brakes engaged but when I go down to just one the lure I am tossing just flies of the reel with a guided thumb with a noticeable casting distance over 2 brakes. My supertuned shimanos are a different story as I can usually just engage 2-3 brakes depending on the bait before it becomes too uncontrollable. My only small beef with shiamno is the slight backplay in the handles but overall I haven't used a quality reel of theres (citica and above) that I didn't like!

Get it supertuned, it'll blow your mind how far that little reel will cast.

I guess it's all about expectations. My review of Shimano reels has less to do with casting distance than with overall performance and durability, however my Shimano reels do cast noticeably further than my ABUs & Quantum. To each his own.
