No disrespect but that's what I hope most think. Use a 300 size reel and a swimbait rod and your good to go, I'm very excited about this bait and will definitely plan on stocking up. I would also like to see a 2 oz Red Eye Shad while they are at it. This bait should catch some lunkers.

I saw that too. I was looking forward to these coming out, but now I'm thinking I might need a whole new set up for it. You guys think it will be ok to fish it on a 7'11 cumara rated up to 1 oz?

My pb lm was caught on a super shad rap, which is a pretty big bait. A 16" lm would have no problem eating that bait. Don't let bait size wig you out...

You're absolutely right, thousands of 1 pounders will still eat this bait.

Its not the bait size that bothers me. An 18" bass can eat a 12" bass no problem. I just think that theres got to be a better and more efficient way to get to that depth.

ABT lures came out with their X2 Slow Sink Crankbait which can reach deeper depths. I bought one but didn't get around to using it much as I got it late in the year. Did make a few cast to see how it swims, looks like it might have promise. Will fish it hard next summer to see if it can earn a spot in my tackle box.

I also bought a Bass Star Dredger a few years back which is another sinking crank, didn't care for that bait.

Didn't produce enough fish for me. The bait would seem to tumble a lot on the cast and which result in too many wasted cast with the hooks fouling on the line. Perhaps their was user error on my part but many of the times it failed to produce I was able to generate strikes with other crankbaits. Maybe others have done well with it but it didn't work out for me. Now watch someone post a trophy that they caught on this bait

Thank you - I have been on the fence about adding a few of these to my arsenal.

I may still give one a try later but for now, guess I'll just put this on hold -

Guys it is just a tool. It all depends on where you fish. It is not a small fish bait for shallow waters. It's a big fish bait for deep waters. Might be worth a try if you have the rigth opportunity. If it produces like a $15 lc pointer the price is right.

I've got my eye on 2-3 of them for deep water situations and $15 isn't a bad price as we'll sometimes spend upwards of $150 for a reel and $150-300 for a rod and not to mention line.

Well the thing about $15 deep diving crank is you're going to get hung up deep because you're going to fish around and run through cover and structure. Lose several of these a day and it gets expensive. You definitely want to have a lure retriever with you if you're going to fish these things. And think about how much fun it's going to be trying to un-snag a lure hung up 25' down on a windy day with a two foot chop, and you're out there by yourself.

I'm thinking if I fish these things I'll probably do it on 65 lb. braid and change out the hooks for something thin wire that I can pull on and straighten the hook if I get hung.

Probably should invest in those LureSaver Split Rings and than use decent hooks. The split rings will give out and open up under enough pressure, more than what a fish will produce though.

Any time you're working any crankbait through a type of cover where the bait is prone to getting hung up, some type of lure retriever is a good idea. This new bait is projected to go a bit deeper but the current baits all go beyond arms reach as well. That being the case, this new bait may really only change my deep cranking techniques in a couple of ways;

1). The baits sheer size may require a bit beefier set up to fish effectively - what that will be is yet to be determined, at least for me.

And

2). Though I don't expect this to be magic, I'm hoping to reap the benefits of what is essentially a "swimbait" sized deep crankbait and we already know that the those bigger baits do routinely end up hung in the face of some of the larger fish in the system.

OK - so they showed up today - and it's pretty big as far as crankbaits go.

 

When compared to a 5 & 6xd it looks quite sizable.

 

Next to the 6 inch Bull Shad - not so much.
