Ok now it's getting to the point I don't fish, and Hurricane Sandy is going to suck up my river. I'm looking for a good ultra light under 75$. I now you might be saying " they suck!" But I love little rebel craws and 2" grubs. It mostly my fun summer rod. Thanks

If you can shell out $79, I'd recommend the Falcon Bucoo. I wish it was more than 5 feet long, but it's not as noodle-ish as most UL, and light as a feather. Really nice little rod.

Whatever brand you decide on, just remember ultralight doesn't have to mean ultrashort. My ultralight is 6'6" and the extra rod length gets me a lot of extra casting distance with lures as light as 1/16 oz. It also gives me more control when I hook into a larger fish.

If you can find one on sale the fenwick elite tech smallmouth rods are good. I have the 6 foot 9 ML which I got for $89 new. They also have a river series which is even more geared to lighter lines and smaller baits which would be possibly better for what you intend to use it for. I have heard some folks finding this line of rods on Amazon for about $80. If your patient you can find a good deal but to get a pretty respectable rod you may have to shell out close to $100+/-. Keeping looking as the winter will bring closeouts for spring and some good sales if your patient.

Check out the 7' B n' M Sam's Supersensitive rod. They average around $50.00 apiece and are some of the finest UL rods available today. I have two of these rods and use them for crappie, perch & bluegill. Have taken several 3# largemouths with them as well....on 2# test XL. :)

What about a custom spinning build on a fly rod blank? Something in the 8' range, maybe 1-2 wt.

That's one of the nice things about custom built rods, the blank doesn't know what it's "supposed to be" and doesn't care. A longer UL or Light helps protect that light line as JF can attest to from steelie fishing.

ESP ultra lite or power lite in 6'6-7'. Really like this rod for steam trout.
