I bought a lot of cranks on ebay and there were a few of these in there. I have never used the floaters and was curious if they dive at all, how deep and what some of your thoughts on them are? Are they good fish catchers and under what circumstance you have had luck on them with? Thanks for the replies!

They dont dive very deep, I know that for sure. I still have some un-opened in my garage. I used to follow up a slow spinnerbait bite with the floating traps and did pretty well. They work pretty well in 1-3 FOW when ran above grass and weeds.

You can buy them from TW for $5.39 but there colors are limited. I have never used the floating version but love the originals, let me know if you have any luck on them i'm curious to see how well they work.

Thanks I went to the Bill Lewis site, still make them. Once the doctors quit using me as a test subject and get my neck and back fixed I'll be getting some.

I've got one and have caught a few fish on it. They will dive, just not too deep.

Before I paid much attention to things like this, 15 years ago I used to fish them alot in the spring, BUT LOL, I never knew they were floaters, I just thought they were like any other crank I had at the time, when you cranked it dove, when you stopped it floated up. You can imagine the shock I was in when I lost my last one to a pike and all the replacements I bought sank. They also used to make a floating deep diving trap, looked like a regular trap, but it had a bill like a diving crankbait. I caught many a pre spawn bass on those in the late 80's/early 90's.

IMO, they are kind of hard to cast out. Not like the original.

I tried them yrs. ago & never any success, unlike the tried & true original;; which always works.

Agree they cast rather poorly..Anyone remember suspending rattletraps? They made em also.

The floating model is a good producer on tidal waters, especially the Potomac River.

i would imagine that is is actually a suspender, but like other suspending baits do, is to float up. i will dig one out and use it just like a suspending jerk bait, and on the right day, it will outfish anything else you can throw.
