Ned Rig/midwest Finesse

Featured Replies

Anyone use it? I have a few times with limited success. If you do use it, list your components please!

Look at the kc area section on the website. Very popular at Melvern Lake for smallmouth. I used it a little during our get together and caught 5 on it. Clayton is the one that turned me on to it and now it is always with me.

I googled it. Its half a Senko on a jig head. I invented that.LOL . Have been doing it for years.

I've been fishing something similar long before In Fisherman publicized it as the Ned Rig. I use a 3" stickworm on a 1/32 or 1/16 gopher tackle mushroomhead with a # 6 Gamakatsu hook. I usually fish it in the summer when faced with those clear sky no wind bluebird days. With the small jighook and slow fall the bait fishes better than you would expect in moderate weed cover. It's a great bait for tough conditions, the other that comes through for me under similar circumstances is a R.I. Smallie Beaver on a 1/16 oz mushroomhead.

Something similar to these? Ran across your thread it reminded of this I read a few days ago.

Interesting I will give it a try when the bite is slow I like the little jig heads personally, been using them of late for curly tail grubs.

I think at one point, many of us have stuck a broken Senko on a jig and fished it. Ned Kehde has just refined it a bit, using a gopher head. The mushroom style head has a slim profile and helps with a horizontal fall.

Another variation I use a lot is to simply texas rig it.And dont wait until the bite is tough. If a lure works well when the fishing is slow ,just think how well it will work when the bite is hot.

The fish in my avatar was caught on half a wave tiki stick texas rigged.

I saw the same thing on flw college fishing, they were using a small round jig head on a 4" senko. They threaded it through one end and fished the hook exposed.

It doesn't work unless you're fishing for drum :laugh5: . It's very simple to fish but you can fish it a ton of different ways. It's really surprising how many quality fish you can catch with it at times. The only bad thing is that it's so effective I probably don't give other baits enough time to work before I pick it up. I fish mine on a 6' 10" ML/F Legend Tournament Bass rod with a 25 size Pfluegar Supreme with 8lb Nanofil with a 10lb fluoro leader and a 3/32oz worm head jig or a 1/16oz ballhead. I like to super glue my bait to the head but Ned and his croanies swear sometimes it's more effective when the bait is slid down the hook. I just can't get myself to fish it like that.
