Yes you can frog with a jig rod. I can get away frogging on a few of my 7' rods not meant for frogging. A 7'6'' rod with an XF tip would be great for frogging and could double for jig work as well.

Are you set on getting the Dobyn's Savvy lineup? And the two rods you mentioned are quite different. One being a 7'3'' 3 powered rod and the other being a 7'6'' 6 powered rod. What type of cover will you be fishing in and what is your budget for this rod?

The first two digits are the length the last digit is the rods power. 734 = 7'3'' rod that is 4 power 4 power is usually considered heavy, 3 considered MH and so forth.

I say either get the 733 or the 734. I've heard good things about both. The 735 does have the XF tip, but I have not heard from anyone who has used it.

You can go froggin with a 7'3'' rod. So in my opinion get the 733, 734, 735 depending on the power you want.

I haven't really met a frog rod I like. They seem more suited to casting the frog than actually setting the hook. Most often, I use my flipping stick for frogging.

I have 2 jig rods I use for frogs. GLX 7'1 hvy and a 7'3" xhvy

I don't throw a frog enough to dedicate a set up for that, I do have two jig rods though, both mh xf. The reel with braid is the one I use for frogging, does fine IMO

I don't throw frogs enough to justify having a designated frog rod. My jig rods do fine.

As long as the rod is heavy enough and you feel comfortable with it there shouldn't be a problem.

I don't see why not, I throw frogs on all of my m/h rods, the least expensive is a berkley LR from a few years ago. They all work.

I jig on a frog rod only because I started throwing frogs first. The only thing I don't like is the rod length. I use a 7'0 frog rod and I'd prefer a 6'6" jig rod because I cant pitch in tighter spots. A new jig rod is on my wish list, as is a new frog rod.....and a new everything.

There are a lot of people around various message boards that love the 735 for frogging. I'm sure the 734 would do just fine for frogs. The savvy line would not be something I consider a jig rod personally but other opinions may vary.

I agree! My Powell Diesel, 723C, which I use for pitching.....I have found that it makes a really good frog rod for slinging the frog far, but more importantly, in setting the hook at distances.

I do have a couple of rods that can sling farther, but setting the hook is iffy.
