That is a HUGE marlin.  Likely a grander.  Should have weighed it as soon as hey docked.

Sucks they killed it.  But not every fish survives the fight, and this might have been the case!

That must have been some time they had on board the boat.

the man said "initially when I hooked into it with my revo winch I just didnt think it would be enough. so I posted on bassresource and was reassured that the abec boca orange seals with carbontex drag had plenty. of course i snapped back into reality after some applesauce and folgers crystals"

After a fight that long I doubt a fish that big would have survived. I was a little confused why they waited that long to weigh it and, I'm assuming, clean it. Seems like you'd want to weigh it when it's at its heaviest and clean it when it's at its freshest?? A very impressive fish and fight either way.

I don't know...the whole story sounds "fishy" to me. It's hard to believe that a commercial

outfitter would be "too whipped" to weigh the biggest fish his boat had ever landed. I think

anyone in the business would exploit an opportunity like that.

Two other aspects of the catch make no sense either. Do you know anyone that wouldn't

want their picture taken with this trophy? And what's up with "over-sleeping" to miss the

weigh-in. What does that comment mean? What kind of contest would that be? And if there

was some prize involved, who in the world would NOT weigh their fish as soon as possible

rather than leaving it out to dry overnight?

I suspect there is much more to this story, either illegal or unethical.
