Swim Jig

Featured Replies

i'm going to buy some swim jigs, not sure what colors to buy, would you all post some pictures of your favorite swim jigs and give me the size, color and brand, starting with the spring bite. Thanks for taking the time  GOD BLESS

3/8oz FIsh colors (baby bass, shad, bluegill)

3/8oz Anything in white.

Those are the two classes of swim jigs that will be a good place to start. Whatever brand you like, Seibert is awesome and so are Dirty Jigs.

you want to stick with head styles that will help flow throw things like grass and weeds.

I like white or green pumpkin with a rage chunk to match in half ounce I like to work mine fast so I don't mind a little heavier if conditions call for it.

3/8 is my go to size, I will fish lighter or heavier, but 3/8's is the most used. Personally I like a bluegill color in the waters I fish if it's clear water, and a chart. sexy shad type color in stained water, haven't seen much need for anything else. Pick any of the better brands, Strike king, Outkast, etc.....they all work and work well.

Brovarny makes a fantastic swm jig. As does RC tackle. I fish 1/4 and 5/16 the majority of the time. Occasionally 3/8. Colors i use the most are white/chart(sexy shad) black/blue and bluegill.

Half ounce Dirty Jigs No Jack in Threadfin Shad is probably my favorite currently.

My next choice is Dirty Jigs 1/4 Alabama Bream

I've onlyt thrown this one once or twice so far but it looks really good in the water. It's also a half ounce Dirty Jigs. I think the color is Green Sunfish or something like that. This isn't the best pic it doesn't look nearly as orange in the water as it does here. To get a little better idea on its color, thats a Keitech Swing Impact Fat trailer in their Pro Staff Special color. Look them up and you'll get a much better idea of the color they match perfectly.

I dont have a favorite swim jig itself yet, but so far I haven't had a problem with any of them. I've used anything from some cheap Gander Mountain swim jigs, to a local guys custom jigs that were about 8 dollars a pop, and even my own. But so far, the ones I have the most at this point in time are the Strike King swim jigs.

Not too expensive and decent quality. I have not had to repair or sharpen a single one since I've started using them. The hooks are somewhat thin, but I've come to like a thinner hook. Takes less effort for the hook to sink in. From what I've seen, I've lost fewer fish because of that.

Trailers have been changing in the last year. I loved the Swimmin' Senkos. Still do. But, they are expensive as heck and I'm tired of repairing an entire bag of them when I get home from the lake. I've started trying other things, and so far I really like the new Havoc Subwoofer from Berkley, and I'm very eager to try Trigger-X's new swim bait called the Slop Hopper.

I've never spent much time swimming jigs and have only caught one fish that I can truly say was caught while purposefully swimming a jig. I saw a couple on this forum that had blades attached to the hook and I made a couple of those to try. I posted this pic somewhere yesterday but can't remember what topic it was in....(it's tuff getting old) but here are some I'm trying this weekend. I may replace one of the watermelon grubs with a swimming fluke just to see if the trailer makes any difference.

The two white ones are some snootie jigs I made, the two bottom left are Mann's Stone jigs, the bottom right is a *** jig.

Have any of you used a long trailer like a 5 or 7 inch worm? It seems like I saw somewhere where a pro won a tournament using one.

Any tips on swimming these through hydrylla?
