Hey guys, i picked up a zara super spook today( the one thats 5 inches long with 3 sets of trebles). 

 

It has a white body and a red head.

 

Anyway, i was wondering if i should remove the middle treble and also i was wondering if it is too big to use for bass???

Definitely not too big, I wish they actually made a bigger one, I went to a private club one time full of Florida strains and caught 8 bass over 5 lbs and probably 10+ that were under 5lbs all on the super spook my largest that day was 7lbs and DON'T remove any trebles, if anything replace them with sharper better quality ones.

I would second that motion to replace the trebles with sharper ones. I do this often on the Spooks. I think you're fine on the size but I like a Spook Jr.

I agree, replace the trebles, but no that's not too big. The funny part is reeling in a dink that tried to eat a bait almost as big as himself!

I've had smallmouth knock a super spook a foot out of the water. Sharp hooks are a must.  When there is a good chop on the water, it's at it's best.

Spooks are "Classic" lures!

 

 

 

Another good spook is the Zara rattle spook makes lots of noise in the water and provokes bites

I take off the stock hooks and replace with # 2 - VMC 9651's.  The short shank on the 9651's don't tangle up like a long shank hook.  I imagine the KVD Mustads would work also, but I use VMC trebles.

The SuperSpook is the only bait I haven't changed out the stock hooks on.  All of the ones I have came with Excalibre Rotating Trebles and I absolutely love them.   If you do anything with the belly hook, just replace it. Removing it will change the balance point.

As for them being too big for bass, I caught my biggest bass last year on a musky size Spook style bait. I've also caught some nice fish on other 8in. baits, so no, they're not too big. At least not for BIG bass.

I've caught 14 inch bass on my lunker punker and I've caught bass 9 inches on my super spook

I have fished a spook quiet a bit and its definately not too big. I also replace the hooks and add spit rings to the ones that don't have them, however, I think the super spook does. When I first started fishing I would throw a spook all day long, don't do that much anymore but I've caught 8" bass and bluegill on a standard Zara spook

That super is a tough one to get walkn

Awesome Bait and has stood the test of time with many other baits trying to copy it.
