Lew's Spinning Reel's

Recommended Posts

I have a buddy that 2 weeks ago bought a Lew's Spinning reel, this morning we were fishing and he hooked about a 4 pound Quill Back while Walleye fishing, about three cranks and the reel stem broke in half about 1" from the reel seat. I have heard other's complain about the quality of the Lew's spinning reel's, and would never recommend one. But this was right beside me and absolutely not in a serious stress situation. Look's like there spinning gear is no where near the quality they are putting into their baitcaster's! He was on his way to Cabelas where he bought it to exchange it for a Stradic when I headed home with my fish.

Add another to the list of quality issues with this reel, I purchased one for river fishing mainly and this reel just cant handle the fish, for the quality of the lews baitcaster I keep reading about it amazes me that the speed spool was such a cheap afterthought.

I am Lews casting reel user. I have 8 Lews in total. 1 Team Lews Pros, 5 TPs, 1 TSS, and 1 Speed spool. I put my hands on a lews spinning reel and it didnt really feel as nice as the old Abu Cardinals that i had (which are half the price) I was really unimpressed....that and i read online reviews from customers that felt like they got shafted by buying such a poorly constructed reel. So this year when i bought two new spinning reels, i went with the Stradics and i will not look back.

Moral of this story, BUY LEWS CASTING and SHIMANO SPINNING.

I was considering getting one, but I don't think I will anymore. I have two Daiwa Excellors and they are pretty dang nice. I dont think I will get another spinning rod/reel for a little bit though.

I bought a Lews spinning reel over a year ago and have had absolutely no problems and have caught plenty of big fish with it.

It was 79.99 when I got it and I no longer see it availabe on the Lews web site.

It was a Tournament Speed Spin with a large spool arbor.

Was just informed it has been discontinued. What a shame a great reel.

I have the lews speed spin 100 I got it for free but it's on my Wally marshal UL for when I chase blue gill with my son. It's not to terrible but I'm not catching anything more then pan fish and bull head on it. Other then that it doesn't get used.

They usually discontinue a reel because it needs improved or can't be and needs it, I honestly believe you were one of the lucky ones!!

Thats pretty much what Lews just told me.

Said they have a whole new line of spinning reels coming out in 2014.

I also have a Tournament speed spool--actually I have 2 and I use them fairly regular--guess i am lucky too--have not had a bit of trouble out of either of them and am very happy with their performance

Yes I agree you are, that is straight from Lew's! I can't argue that.
