BPS XPS Wide Superlock hooks

Featured Replies

Don't know about these particular hooks, but a couple of years ago I was fishing with a guy who had about 8 or 10 good sized bass come unbuttoned on him - I kept asking him if his hook was sharp and he kept saying they were "brand new hooks" - finally I asked to look at his hook (a BPS brand) and saw that the "point" was really like the nub on a factory sharpened pencil rather than a long tapering point.  He switched to a 'gammy' and never lost another bass.

Be sure to check the points before trying 'em.

bought a bulk pack earlier this year, broke 6 or so on hook sets. they are now in a special tackle box for back seat fishers. I say stick to whats tried and proven.

Bass Pro brand hooks will cost you more money in the long run.

100% agrees! I learned my lesson the hard way 4 years ago.

I'll stick with the Owner's.. ;)

I've bought several bulk packs of XPS hooks in the past. My experience with them was that they were very inconsistent. Some had barbs some did not. Some were sharp, some were dull. Some bent, some broke. Some were decent hooks, some were heart breakers. I threw some away, and gave the rest to some young kids at the dock. They were happy to get um.

Some time back on BPS website I read a review on them where someone stated they were very weak and straightened out very easily, also actually broke a few.  Never tried them personally, but also never have had any of those experiences using Gamakatsu hooks.  I'll stick with those for what I need, they don't cost that much, though it is a good bit more than the XPS versions, but then again, the way I added it up the XPS is about 1/4 the price of the Gammy hooks.  Based on others' reviews they might also be 1/4 the hook quality as well.

I have a few packs of BPS hooks, never really had a problem with them.  However, the superlock is something to stay away from...I bought a pack a few years ago with the assumption they were a regular EWG....WRONG.  They are similar to an EWG but the point points back towards the shank of the hook, instead of running flush with your bait, the point is turned back into it....regular EWG |    Superlock /

I had a ton of bass break my hook or just spit it back out, they are garbage in my opinion

I love me some Owners and some Gamakatsus

Save money somewhere else.

Even "expensive" hooks don't cost much.

8-)

Do yourself a favor and shop around. I had done some research on where I could find the best price on Gammy EWG. I don't have the list here at work but I can tell you Stamina Inc was one of the top 2 or 3 places (pricewise) I found to get these hooks! Bass Pro's prices were NOT even close. Oh, I was basing my search on a 50 QTY.
