Keeping Fish Hooks From Getting Caught In Vehcile

Featured Replies

I have a dumb problem that I'm sure has an easy solution. I drive an SUV and keep the rear seats down. I slide my fishing poles in the cargo area when done fishing but the hooks (especially on crankbaits) get caught in the carpet. What do you guys do to prevent this?

Ya could buy some treble hook covers. They work great, also use them in my tackle boxes to keep my baits from snagging together.

Or they make Velcro lure covers that you can just wrap around the rod. Fairly inexpensive and do their job

I use snaps & take all lures off with trebles. Same thing for the rod locker in the boat. Lesson learned.

I use to have that problem but I started hooking my lures by the reel so they don't get caught

Cut them off when you're done fishing.  It saves them from getting hung in the carpet, in your hand, in your dog and it insures that you tie a fresh knot next time you go out.

I use the basspro wraps. That along with rod sleeves keeps things nice and tidy for me.

It's not a dumb question but you should always take your lures off when you are done fishing.

I always cut everything off and place them back in the tackle boxes. Sometimes  coming back from night fishing I can

get a  little lazy but before I go out I will retie everything. I 'm just guessing but you aren't using a boat just shore fishing so at the most

how many rods are we talking about?  2 , 3 at the most

take you less than 1 minute

You can always use treble covers, but removing the lures altogether will insure they don't hang up, plus it's a not a bad idea for a fresh new knot for your outing.  I don't use the hook keeper on the rod, I just put the hook on the foot of the guide.

you will learn hopefully sooner than later that it is so much easier to just take a treble hook lure off rather than leaving it on in your car before you have to conduct surgery on coats, boots and seats.

For treble hook baits I cut the lure off and put it in a cup in the back of the truck. Then I tie it back on real quick when I go fishing.

I use snap swivels on my topwater, crankbait, & spinner bait rods when the spinner bait has a loop. I remove all my lures. On my carolina rod I stick the 3/0 hook where the reel slot is. Then attention the line. It hasn't come out yet. After hooking a few new seats in my new cars and digging the hooks out while my misses is giving me a rash about it I have changed my mistake ways. Sometimes she is right but I don't let her know that.
