When Do You Consider A Day Of Fishing A "good" Day Of Fishing?

Featured Replies

At my home lake, the place I fish most often, you won't find me having to many of those 20+ fishing days as far as number of fish caught. But I do catch fish there at' what I would say, a "consistent" basis. For me that number is about a fish an hour. If I can average this, I consider that a good day of fishing.

Quality over quantity, but for that sake of discussion lets just assume all the fish are the same size. At my lake 15 in fish at about 1.5 to 2.5 lbs are caught consistently, or what I consider consistent. Im Also usually fishing from shore, so keep that in mind.

I also realize, it's possible to have a good day without catching many fish. But again, for the sake of discussion, lets talk numbers, avg size, species, etc...

Any thoughts?

Where I fish 1 is good.

Casting for a 1 to 2 pounder.

A good day of fishing for me is when I am at the Everglades and I catch 40+ LMB  on my own (excluding my fishing partner), avg 3-5lbs. A great day is throw in 6+ lb bass in the mix. An awesome day, is when they are all caught on hollow body frogs.

A good day for me is finding that magical school of largemouth and smallmouth all feeding on baitfish in the same area where you can throw any lure you want and it will get bit. I love those days.

A good day of fishing is when I get to go fishing.

Most of the lakes I fish have a very limited amount of space for shore fishing.  So basically if the fish aren't in that particular area at that particular time, I'm S.O.L.  If I can get 3 or 4 fish in a couple hours, I consider that a good trip.  And like BassinLou said, if they're caught on topwater then so much the better.

But in reality, every day spent fishing is a good day even if I don't catch anything.

A good day of fishing is when I get to go fishing.

A good day of fishing is if I am by myself and I get to touch atleast one fish. If I'm with my buddies as long as we all don't get skunked I call it a good day!

A good day is just being out on the water with my buddies. Im happy when my friends catch fish. Some people get frustrated and ticked, if theyre not having as good a day as their buds but as long as my friends or myself are getting bit.. Im having fun!

Lately, a good day for me is when I get a fish, period.

I've heard of those mythical days. Maybe tomorrow, maybe next week, maybe next season...my time will come!

There all good. Some are better than others but they are never bad. Life's too short.

When I have had even more fun than usual.

Freshwater I'm only fishing for bass. Any time I can catch something that's a good day for me.

Saltwater wise I love fishing for calico bass. The trips I've been on its usually fish on every cast.

Quality is good but just hooking into a fish is what I'm really wanting.

Any day that I am fishing is a good day!

Tough question to answer, fishing everyday I get both very productive days and days that are totally dead.  I have great days when I've only caught 1 fish in saltwater if it's the "right fish" and not so good a day if I've caught 20 unchallenging fish.

I do most of my bass fishing from late Nov to about March, that time of the year it's usually productive so it's enjoyable.

Anytime my boat is in water, I'm at the bow, and a loved one is at the stern.

THAT is a good day, my friend.

As much as I love to catch fish, I've had just as much fun, if not more, getting skunked with my boy (or wife) than catching 15 fish alone.

Good day on lakes with spotted bass for me such as nacimento is approx 30-40 spotted bass but they usually never exceed over 3lbs. They're typically in the 10-16 inch range. An unforgettable day though with my uncle and I was catching an easy 90+ bass in that same size range though. It happened only once in the fall. On the Cali delta a great day is 40+ fish with at least over one that exceeds 5lbs +

A good day fishing is any day I get to go.  Being out in God's great creation and seeing all there is to look at, flower, fauna, etc.  Any time I can figure out where they should be a fish and I catch one there, that is just great.

Trips where a Scale and a Camera are put to use are usually "Good Days" (or Nights).

Any day I learn something new about my green friends or about the reservoir. Yesterday, I discovered a totally awesome rockpile that I didn't know existed!
