So here is the deal. I bought 16 different manufacturers soft plastic crawfish baits and a buddy and myself will battle them head to head on the creek until a winner emerges. Each battle will last 2 hours and all baits are as close to green pumpkin as possible. If you want fill out a sheet of which bait you think will rein supreme and pm it to me or post it. The winner will not recive anything but be reconized as being pretty awesome. SO game on. Also if you have any questions feel free to ask

Sorry forgot to add the fishing will begin in August and we will be wading creeks in middle TN for smallmouth, spots, and largemouth

Put me down for $50 on the Rage Tail Craw.

id like to put $50 on the chigger craw, craw papi, and baby paca craw

Ya gonna fish 16 different lures in 2 hrs.  ;)

No each lure will get 2 hours of fishing time per brackett to see which will catch more fish. So each battle lasts 2 hours and then the winner moves on and is fished again for 2 hours and this happens untill there is only one. Also I am gauging the response to this because next year I would like to expand it and include some other categories of soft plastics and have a #1 soft plastic champ. It's just something fun and tests a little brand loyalty

I like this idea.  Can't wait to see which one wins.  I think it will be the rage craw or the paca craw who will reign supreme

although it's a fun idea your method is not scientific so therefor you can not prove which bait is better. there are to many variables that could change from day to day that change the way fish bite. in order for it to be a fair test you would have to fish at the same time, same spot, same temp water, same water depth, same presentation and so on and so-forth

but it sounds like a fun couple of days

Never heard of or seen a Gene Larew Biffle Craw?

But I like Gene Larew ;)

That's why they are being fished head to head so all the variables are the same for each individual battle. Granted it doesn't prove 100% wich bait is the ultimate best under every condition but it is as close to equal as I can make it

  • Super User

It really is a battle between fishermen , who ever has the technique mastered best will win.

I did take technique into consideration as well. My friend and I both fish about the same style. Also we are extremely competitive wich I thought would help because its about beating each other and not having a preference towards a bait. I appreciate all the comments because it can only make this better

Yeah, you may fish in theory about the same style in your words but you are not him and he is not you so in the practice what is theoretical does not apply so results will vary and you end up with what BB said: who ever has the technique mastered best will win and in this case is not who but which bait will win.

Fun battle to perform but the results are useless.

But you will be fishing the individual "battles" under different conditions....the head to head battles MAY be a worthwhile comparison but who is to say the loser of battle 1 wouldn't have outperformed the winner of battle 8 so many hours later?

agreed. For this to be a worthwhile tests, all of the variables would have to be taken out of the equation, which is just not possible in this situation.

Still neat to see the results, but a test like this will not prove what's the better bait... it will prove what baits YOU are best at fishing, and which of the 2 baits worked best given the conditions.

I really like this idea and I think it's fun. Although it won't truly prove which bait is the better, it's fun to see which one will come out on top. I can't wait for the results. I am laying my money on the Chigger Craw.

yes, we are aware ;D

I think you guys should each fish with both baits 1hr apiece then switch. This will prob help to take some of the human aspect out of it. Because then you'll have each bait fished by a different fisherman but the baits still would be head to head. Instead of one bait by one fisherman

Sounds like fun, have at it and let us know how it comes out.

No Hags craw??

Mman great suggestion and consider it done

Geez don't beat the guy up about it... Sounds like a fun little test that may not be perfect but hey, when is a test of fishing baits ever perfect?

Sounds like a good time for you and your friend, and no the results won't be good enough to publish in Scientific American. But, it's not like you're curing cancer or launching the Space Shuttle. To me this sounds more like a good excuse to spend more time fishing and gain bragging rights.
