Need some help.

 

I recently got a used 50E. It looked to be in great shape. I have taken it out 4-5 times and it was fantastic. All I did was flush the bearings like normal before I took it out.

 

Well today about 3 hours in to fishing, it started making a slight "tick" "tick" "tick" as I was reeling in. Fast the retreive the fast the "tick" "tick". Slower the retreive, you get the point. Casting is fine, hardly any noice and very smooth

 

When I got home, I took it down for a good cleaning and re-lubing. I figured it just needed lube. It was pretty dirty inside, but nothing looked damaged, worn etc. I re-assembled and went to casting a 1/2oz plug in the yard to test it out. Same thing, and I'll be damned if it isnt louder.

 

Any suggestions?

You can't put lipstiick on a pig...also known as trying to polish a turd...it's just an inferior product. Since you've been on here a while, I'll take it off your hands to give you more room in the boat. I'll even pay the shipping.

sounds like the anti reverse pawl. just take it out. if anything it will make the retrieve smoother. it only serves as a backup that you probably won't need.i take them out of all my reels when i clean them the first time. never had an issue. if you installed them incorrectly and they are bent even a little bit, it can be a headache. 

the AR pawl (part# BNT 2404), notorious in the curado's e's...doesn't hurt performance, just annoying...those lil flanges on it or whatever get a lil tweeked out of shape...you can try to bend/straightened them back and make sure they are equal, hard to explain...

Are you talking about talking about the Anti-reverse Ratchet. Flat under the drag washer the size of a half dollar or the anti-reverse pawl?

You know this makes me feel stupid, but this is the first CU50E I've ever had and I just assumed the Pawl wasnt put in it like it is on the CH50E's I have. Its been taken out prior to me getting it.

its the flanges on the pawl that get tweeked & cause's the noise...

You have this figured out. I'll just add that when you service the reel putting a dab of grease in between the flanges on that dog also helps quiet it down.

As far as the noise goes, I am not sure what it is, as the last time I used the reel is wasn't making the noise, and it hasn't seen any action for quite some time. If it is anything major, let me know and I would be happy to reimburse you for any parts or work that needs to be done.

Can you determine where the tick is coming from? Try tearing it down again reassemble to see if it disappears

I forgot to update this. I spent the better part of two hours between Mike ant DVT and Shimano. I changed the gears, lubes it all up and finally found the tick. Its in the roller clutch bearing. I swamped the new one out of my CH50E and it went away. I'm in the process of spraying it out and soaking it now. Will re lube and try it again.

While your at it take out the AR RATCHET..

I've got a pile of them in the office..

No worries bud. If I have to replace the part it's around 12 bucks. I appreciate the offer, but you had no idea the bearing was going out. It was smooth as butter when I got it lol.
