I'm hitting a local body of water this weekend. Along with jigs I'm planning on trying a jerkbait.

For stained water what color should I use, or should I even try a JB in stained water? It's mostly a sight-based lure isn't it?

I fish jerkbaits in stained water all the time. Anything flashy, like chrome or gold works. The only colors I haven't had much success with are perch and clear. YMMV.

Traditional rule of thumb, dark lure for dark water and light lure for lighter colored water.

I've had very good success with Husky Jerks in the chrome and black color.

Not trying to hijack here, but Ive always wondered why this is the case? Ive always figured it was opposite, lighter lure easier to see in darker water and vice versa... Now since Ive come to this forum I do it traditionally, with success, but def not understanding why.

I like Firetiger in stained water. Make sure it rattles and suspends.

I try to focus on action (sound, vibration) even more than sight
