Up here in ny we have a ton of gobys will bass eat them?

Oh yeah they will. When I fish up in erie that's one of their main food sources. I like to dropshot a poor boys 4" goby

Two of the main reasons smallmouth populations have exploded on the Great Lakes

is the introduction of gobies as a food source and the zebra mussel which has made

the water clearer.

Rocks are the preferred habitat of the goby. Their presence around identifiable

structure makes it much easier to target predators, i.e., smallmouth bass. Before

they became abundant, bait schools were commonly suspended offshore, basically

in the middle of nowhere.

Almost all other species big enough to eat  them do. Gobies are fatty soft fined & easy to eat.

Oh they eat them alright, but its illegal to use them for bait in New York at least and if you catch them it is illegal to put them back in the water, so the best thing is to throw them on the grass and watch the sea gulls swoop down for them.  Every time I fish the Upper Niagara, the sea gulls know to stay close to fishermen because of the easy meal.

I lived in NY for 46 years and this was a great bait there.

Zoom Goby

I was just looking at this yesterday on TW, I had no idea that Zoom made a goby bait. I'm guessing a drop shot is that way to go for these but I was thinking on a jig head to mimic the gobies swimming around the rocky bottom. How have you rigged them?

Split shots, swim jig trailers, drop shots and weighted swim hooks work GREAT !
