Hey guys i'm sure this is no secret to ya'll but i've been amazed at how well the shakey head works in the cold water.Water temps are about 50 degrees right now so i usually dig out my jerkbaits but this year my go too bait is still the shakeyhead worm. Other plastics dont seem to produce in cold water for me but  old shakey keeps doing it over and over! Has anyone else found this to be true? Love to hear your feedback..thanks Bob

I find it to be at its best in the winter time.

by other plastics, do you mean other rigging styles?

yep you cant go wrong with a  spot remover jig 3/16 ounce with a roboworm

What kind of structure/ depth are you fishing? I haven't been in the south too long (from Wisconsin), so this winter fishing without drilling through the ice is still new to me.

yea when i say other plastics i meant texas rigged and even carolina rigged...and as far as where i use them its mostly the same places i fish  all year long, like brush piles , docks are always great and also rocks and points,

Oh how I long for 50 degree water.  Its snowing and blowing here like crazy and I'm guessing the water is in the mid to upper 30's 

But yes the shaky head is great in cold water.  Cold water is the only situation that I have found that Gulp actually out fishes normal plastics.    I usually go with a 1/8 oz Picasso and a 5" gulp slim shaky worm.

Though I just got my first order from North Star Baits which included 25 Shaky jigs.  They look great so hopefully they fish as good as they look.  I really like the Picasso's but they can get pricey.  Can't wait to try out the NSB's in some "cold" water after ice out  8-)

i have latly started moving towards a drop shot wherever i would have fished shakey head before.  This has been catching me more and larger fish latly.

I use the owner ultra shakeyheads mostly, and sometimes big bites and i do well with the zoom shakey worms with the tails dipped in chartruse dye. That really helps on my home lake where that color has always produced for me. As for useing the drop shot i must admit im lacking that technique but will soon learn it..thanks and good fishing

its very easy, all i do is shake the rod tip on a slack line and then let the bait sit for like 5 seconds, move it 4 inches then repeat.

Powerplant lakes however away from the discharge, I will give it a try.

I fish them year round but cold water and really warm water is where they really seem to shine for me. I pour my own and paint most of them brown or green pumpkin red flake and catch fish from any body of water that I fish.

the lake i fish on is a power plant lake too and we fish away from the warm water discharge in the colder water and shakeys work great...good luck and good fishing
