The Great Debate

Recommended Posts

I have strongly been looking to buy a GoPro camera and a new fish finder for the front of my boat. The only problem is that I can only afford one or the other right now due to weddings being so expensive! My great idea of getting married at the lake and saving a few extra dollars had failed. Anyone have some input to help my decision making process?

Agreed.  Go with the depth finder.

Ask the guys who have a Go Pro how many times they watch the videos they shoot. Ask them how much fun it is to watch hours of video where almost nothing happens when you have to edit. The depth finder is SO much more useful.

My reason for the Gopro extends further than fishing. I live an active life and would use it quite a bit. Thats the only reason for my debate. Sorry for not clarifying that.

If it must be one, I'd go with the locator.  The GoPro is a fun thing though.  And it can help your fishing by reviewing certain aspects of your game.

They say the camera adds 10lbs. I'd look 300 rather than my svelte 290

Good news and bad news. Bad news is while measuring to install my trolling motor tray today I found that the tray is to deep. Good news is that now I can send the tray back and put that money toward buying both!

Haha debate ended! The locator is going to help you find the fish while you're on the water. The gopro is really cool and will help you learn from your mistakes and improve your technique. Both are great investments! If there's anyone else in your position though, buy the locator first then save for the camera.

For strictly fishing, without a second thought I would go with the fishfinder but for life in general (including fishing) I'd go with the gopro.  This is all a mute point since you get the best of both worlds

We do yearly hearing checks at work to make sure these don't happen.

My suggestion:  Buy EVERYTHING you want now 'cause after you're married (and especially after you have children) you won't get to.  Actually, forget what I just said.  After these two events you won't have time to go fishing so just go buy a rope.  You'll know what for after a few years.

It depnds really.  Do you have a finder now that you are looking to upgrade?  Are you willing to learn how to use it and actually benefit from using it? DO you fish now without one and do ok?

I have a gopro and i love it.  I don't use it all the time but the videos i got while on the boogie board with my 3 1/2 year old son make it worth it...the fishing videos are pretty cool too.
