Rod Guide Defect Or?

Featured Replies

So I just got a powel diesel today from twh and I notice that the rod guide were a bit odd as in the rod guide were pointing more towards up compare to my shimano and other rod that are level out. Is it normal or is it defect? Should I be concern to the rod breakage?

Could just be a difference in guides. Unless it is some outrageous difference I wouldn't be concerned.

Left is the diesel and the right one is my shimano

Nothing to be worried about. I have a few like that.

Haha alright then cause it's just this one out of my 4 rod that the guide shoots up instead of leveling out.

I don't think it's supposed to be like that it looks bent to me but I would wait for someone like DVT to chime in

They're supposed to be like that. It's a "tangle-free" guide, similar to the Fuji K-Series.

Agreed. My vendetta and veritas are both like your powel and they have zero problem whatsoever. However I do not think they are "tangle-free" in any way. I bought the vendetta because I liked how stiff it was for a MH and got the 7'3" for flipping and pitching. I recently made a new purchase for a flipping and pitching rod because the line constantly got tangled. Casting wise though, it can sling a frog a mile so I wouldn't worry about your guides.

That is normal

I can't see enough detail to confirm whether or not they are a "tangle free" guide but it looks like that's the natural pitch of the guides, nothing to worry about.

If they weren't supposed to be like that, they wouldn't all look exactly the same.

I have a powell that is like that as well.  Nothing to worry about.  That is the way they are supposed to be.

Thanks guys I guess I was just paranoid buying from a different rod company.

You're not paranoid, just observant.

I remember the first rod I bought that was fitted with wrap-resistant guides.

I was about to bend the guide frame to get the insert perpendicular to the rod.

Then I noticed about a half-dozen other guides with the same forward slant  :rolleyes7:
