Help With Centrifugal Breaking.

Featured Replies

This is my first baitcaster and I'm having a little trouble. I can't seem to adjust the brakes. The pins look up to me. I tried moving them down but they won't budge. It's a BPS bassmaster pro bsm1000h 6.3:1

Thanks

Brian

Look closely, you move the brakes up (on) and down (off) with you fingernail.

The little clippy things keep the brakes in place,

Start with all the brakes on and the spool tension tight, so a 1/2 lead just barely falls.

Now go practice!

I hope I dont come off as a fool but I can't find any tabs that want to move.

Thanks

Honestly by looking at it I don't see any either so you're not a fool. They were easy to find in my pro qualifiers. Which reel is that?

It's a BPS Bassmaster BSM1000H. I got it used.

I don't think I've ever heard of that one. Usually on a reel with centrifugal breaks there will be little spring loaded pins inside you have to push up or down with your fingernail to turn them on or shut them off. When you push them up youre turning the breaks on.

Also is that red plastic supposed to be there? It just looks out of place.

Take the brake at the two white arrows and push them toward the blue line.

Sorry, that one still has yellow on it. Do that to one brake and then if that doesn't work, try it on another and then if that doesn't work try the third. The further away from center the brake is the slower your spool turns.

I can't explain it very well, but I think I know what I am talking about   :)

Are there only 3 brakes on that reel? It looks strange.

Looks like it to me. Maybe you could only set one side of the brake, but I am not sure.

Can you send it back for a refund. If so, do what you have to do to get a newer Curado. Only the good Lord knows how much future trouble you are going to have with the reel but I can take a guess!

There are no brakes in that reel, probably why you can't find them, or figure out how to use them.

Ya, you're missing some parts there.

X2...

Here ya go with a perfact example of a re-branded reel, no support for it...:Victory:

Good Luck & Tight Lines! :fishing1:

Yep, the brake blocks are missing! There should be little top hat shaped brakes on the metal pins. The red bits are just the clips that hold the brake blocks in the on or off position.

That reel is a 6 pin centrifugal system and you're missing your brakes.

Yep... That's the model that shimano started legal action against

Due to patent infringement !!

They were slick reels but were not around long

Shimano vbs would work (brake weights) maybe?

Good luck bmac31!

Yep, those little black posts should have plastic brake blocks stuck on them.  I'd take it back to the store and tell them to give you a set of 6 brake blocks - or a new reel with all its parts installed.

Wow that's very disapointing. I bought the reel off of a BR member in the flea market. I emailed BPS and they sent me a part list. Do you guys think it could be fixed if I get the brakes. Are all breaks universal?

Thanks for everything!

I think brakes from Pure Fishing might be a better fit. Though, I can't remember if they made that reel or if Pinnacle did, it's been about 10 years ago.
