Soft plastic

Featured Replies

What is your 6 favorite soft plastic baits and your 6 favorite colors from spring to fall. THANKS

  • Super User

Dvdrd, the answer is infinity.

Everyone has their favorite colors so if you ask 100 people you will receive 100 different responses.

Watermelon and Green Pumpkin are you base colors. One for clean water and one for stained water.

Black is very good for dirty water.

Plastic worm manufacturers have made up names for each color, some of which have no relationship to the color, such as Junebug, Ehrler's Edge and Motor Oil.

Plus the fact that we have favorite colors for specific bodies of water and specific techniques.

The guys can give you lists of their favorite colors but it is up to you to figure out which colors work best under which conditions and on which bodies of water.

Good question, although the answer is infinite.  ;)

Usually all I carry is 4-6 colors of any one bait, my personal top 4 would be:

Black w/blue flake

June Bug

Green Pumpkin

Watermelon w/red flake

I pretty much carry those colors in just about every bait I carry, I add a few more to other select baits, but  It's not nessecary.

I could get by just fine, and usually do with these 6 baits:

Beaver

Paca Craw

Senko

Trick Worm

Fluke

Finesse Worm

I quit trying to carry a lot of styles/colors.  One color that I always look for in whatever I buy is Watermelon Candy.  Other than that, it's black/blue, Green Pumpkin, Watermelon/Red Flake and a few in Junebug.  Haven't found a need for anything else.

I disagree.  If you ask 100 anglers for color recommendations, you will see a trend....your answer reflects that trend, in fact.  I'll limit my advice to bottom plastics, not Senkos, flukes, paddletails, etc.  Some kind of black, some kind of green, and some kind of brown is really all you need.  From there, reds and purples are deadly on certain lakes.

colors:

Green

Brown

Black

White

Blue

Red

I use some variation of green or brown probably 95% of the time.  I dont' get too caught up in the particular variation.  Green with black/red/blue/purple/whatever flakes is still green to me.  The times where they'll only hit a particular color of flake is not all that often.

Soft plastics (not counting trailers)

Power Worm

Trick Stick

Rage Craw/Lobster (Paca craws too)

Beaver style (good thing I stocked up before Brent stopped selling them)

Trick Worm

Paddletail

Grub for creek smallies

10 inch worms in some sort of purple.

Fluke in shad or white

fluke in watermelon red when fishing on bottom

trick worm in watermelon seed

senko in watermelon purple swirl

Sorry I don't have 6 different baits, but these are my colors.

Zoom trick tail worms,watermelon/chart. tail,Big Texan and watermelon magic and one more Black.

Zoom baby Brush Hog,watermelon magic, pumpkin, green pumpkin magic, and green pumpkin. Big Texan is a spring color, the rest I use all year.

Well I haven't really used many soft plastics the last few years  :-[ but I used to have a lot of luck with Zoom lizards in the 4" and 6" variety.  My go to color was chartreuse/pumpkin or just chartreuse.  My fishing buddy catches a ton of fish using beavers (mostly brown) and split-tail worms (black w/chart. tail).

Favorite colors

Green Pumpkin

Black

June bug

Watermelon

Favorite Plastics

Baby brush hog

Spear worm

Beaver

I agree, Green and brown are the only colors I need, well maybe pink (or whatever color a earthworm is ;) ).

BassShephard,

So you and I like pink.

Is that bubble gum pink or pink?

And what flavor pink from which manufacturer?

See where I am going with this?

And what about Electric Blue? What in the world is Electric Blue? Is it like my special run of Caroblue???

And I agree with the three basic colors as mentioned above but there are so many variances that we could send dvdrd into a mental hospital.  ;D   ;D   ;D
