I've probably have tried 100 different brands/lbs of line in all my years of fresh and salt water fishing. Last night just changed out my PQ's back to XL. What a great casting line! Even my 13 yr old noticed this morning. I've caught a 10.13 and a 11.5 bass on it, and more 30" plus red fish than I can count. The ol if it ain't broke don't fix it is true.

PS I do use 40lb braid for frogs etc

I used it for years, in 6# to 17# on various reels. It works, and it's the standard I compare everything else to. That said, I don't have a single reel spooled with it, haven't for over decade. There's better stuff out there, but with every little improvement in one aspect, there's a trade off in another. If it works, run with it. If you find some part lacking, do a little research, and try something different. Personally, I'll never be able to find one line to do it all.

No I think there are better lines out there.  I like sufix mono personally but honestly haven't spooled a reel with mono in quite a few years.  Mostly it just gets used as a leader on my topwater rod that's spooled with braid.

Yeah this line is very supple and smooth and it casts excellent. That being said, I've yet to put it on any of my bc reels. I suppose I'd like to give it a try but I doubt I will.

I used 4# & 8# on spinning reels for years with no complaint.  Have some 6# on a b/c reel I use for 1/4 oz. and under lures.  I've tried a few other brands.  Not because XL wasn't good, but simply because I wanted to try something different.  I do like Sufix Elite (I'm usung 12#) a lot.  Have had the same line on one b/c reel for 5 years.  Nice and limp.  Doesn't coil from setting anywhere near as bad as Big Game.

Asking anyone's opinion on what is best will get you their opinion and we all have different ideas of what is "best"!

Berkley offers XL (extra limp) and XT ( extra tuff) for a reason, XL is low memory, low abrasion resistant line engineered for spinning reels. XT is better suited for bait casting and general fishing. Sun light breaks down both XL & XT, low UV resistance and weaken in cold temperatures due to being high water absorbing. Both these anomalies are common with Nylon monofilament lines.

Not knocking XL or XT, both are good mono lines and have a long tract record of success.

The most expensive mono's maybe Sunline Shooter Defier and Blackwater Toray mono line that claims to resolve the mono anomalies mentioned.

I use everything from the 6 to the 20lb test in clear, or chartreuse when seeing the line is paramount.

 

When I put a 7 1/2' (almost 20" thick in the middle) manta ray on the beach, pointing the rod at the beast and walking up the beach on the 20lb Tri+ I was forever sold.

 

I can honestly say I have never broken a fish off on the Sufix. It ties knots like the knot was designed for the line....

There may not be better lines at the same price, but there's MUCH better lines out there.

Big game is great because you can use it for weed whackers too. Other than having too much memory and not handling worth a crap, it's great.

I've been using Trilene XL , XT & BG ever since forever without any problems that I can see. Re-spool with fresh line every spring, couple good squirts of KVD L&L and it's all good at a reasonable price.

Can't stand Trilene, always seems to break so easily. I'll take Mustad Ultra line any day, can't hardly break that stuff. P line C21 is great for moving baits and only $5 for a spool.

All I used for years - outside of frog fishing I could live with only trilene xl - but of course I am and will be trying different types and brands of line for the rest of my fishing life.

I think most guys have fished Trilene XL and XT at one time or another.

Do yourself a favor and try a few other lines. Seaguar has some great

lines. Yo-Zuri Hybrid is inexpensive and most guys like it. I use to fish

P-Line, but the memory is awlful. If you want to stick with monofilament

try Sunline Super Natural or Izorline.

I think the question is just like is Toyota Corolla the best car ever? The answer is it depends, for that price its good but if you can afford more there are definitely better ones out there.

Suffix elite is what I use now. Best mono I have ever used.
