Well I was in a tackle shop today, mostly on a whim, and picked up some stuff. 2 things I got were a pack of Shakey heads and some worm weights. Now I got them in pretty light sizes; the Shakey heads in 1/8oz the weights in 1/16oz. Does anyone have any experience fishing these light a weights? The main reason I got the was to encourage bites on the fall but I'd really appreciate your guys' thoughts, feelings, whatever, in using these things.

They work much better in areas that have algae covered bottoms. Generally a bullet weighted Texas rig will get hung up a little less than a shakeyhead; especially if you peg it. I think the lighter weights may let the bait wiggle a bit more. A senko still has its "shimmy" with a 1/32 or 1/64oz bullet sinker, put a 3/8 on and it'll drop like a stone.

I like using 1/16 and 1/8 weights /w senkos.

I use the 1/64 bullets or keel weighted arkie hooks for slow falls and subtle movements on days where nothing else works. My main plan is to use weights that match how fast I'm fishing. When I'm fishing rip rap I try to stay close to 1/8 oz, I don't know if it's superstition or blind luck, but I can nearly always whip out of the crevice snags with that weight. Smaller and it seems to want to skim into one before I feel it and bigger doesn't want to flip itself out. I must be improving that system, my hooks are getting used up in it before I lose a weight now. The line weight and type plays into some of this as well. Co-polymers have been good to me with this subtle presentation/slow fishing stuff. I keep one rod spooled up with 8lb test with me all the time. Happy medium for a lot of things.

1/8thoz shakeys are pretty solid all around. Light line for sure. Normally I fish a 1/4oz w/ 12lb fluro, but a 1/8th I'll go to 10lb on spinning gear.  As for the 1/16th weights --- I use them for worm fishing in grass and shallow water. Fish em' on 12 lb test easily.

1/16th ounce shakyhead with a 5" stickworm is a killer for me. 1/8oz is one of my go to sizes. 

Lighter weights are less prone to snagging, so if you can fish slowly through some rough stuff they will be less frustrating than trying to fish slowly with heavier weights.
